Interhemispheric inhibition (IHI) plays a crucial role in performing unilateral hand movements. Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) has been shown to modulate IHI and enhance motor learning, but the most effective stimulation intensity remains

Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

eScience Gateway Stimulating Collaboration in Rock Physics and Volcanology [PDF]
Earth scientist observe many facets of the planet's crust and integrate their resulting data to better understand the processes at work. We report on a new data-intensive science gateway designed to bring rock physicists and volcanologists into a collaborative framework that enables them to accelerate their research and integrate well with other Earth ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Electrical stimulation (ES) counteracts muscle decline in seniors
The loss in muscle mass coupled with a decrease in specific force and shift in fiber composition are all marks of aging. Training and regular exercise attenuate the signs of sarcopenia. However, pathologic conditions limit the ability to perform physical

Vibrotactile Stimulation as an Instructor for Mimicry-Based Physical Exercise [PDF]
The present aim was to investigate functionality of vibrotactile stimulation in mimicry-based behavioral regulation during physical exercise. Vibrotactile stimuli communicated instructions from an instructor to an exerciser to perform lower extremity movements.

Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...
