INFLUENCE OF THE THIN LAYERS THICKNESS, DEPOSITED BY PVD METHOD ON DURABILITY OF THE CUTTING INSERTS

open access: yesNonconventional Technologies Review, 2015
Deposition of some materials as thin layers on cutting tools, to increase the wear resistance of these, has become a major interest for the cutting tool industry in recent years.

Atomistic modelling of large-scale metal film growth fronts

open access: yes, 1998
We present simulations of metallization morphologies under ionized sputter deposition conditions, obtained by a new theoretical approach. By means of molecular dynamics simulations using a carefully designed interaction potential, we analyze the surface ...

Probing equilibrium glass flow up to exapoise viscosities [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Glasses are out-of-equilibrium systems aging under the crystallization threat. During ordinary glass formation, the atomic diffusion slows down rendering its experimental investigation impractically long, to the extent that a timescale divergence is ...

Resistance Rapid Heating of Aluminum Coatings in an Extreme High Vacuum–Adequate Atmosphere for Hot Stamping

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The subject of this work is the development of a corrosion‐protective coating on steel sheets for form hardening. Rapid heating in an extreme high vacuum (XHV)‐adequate atmosphere is a useful method to prevent oxidation during alloying of 22MnB5 and aluminum to obtain a metallurgical bonding.

Characterization of oxide barrier layers prepared by atomic layer deposition

open access: yesAdvances in Mechanical Engineering, 2017
Atomic layer deposition has become an important thin-film growth technique for producing gas diffusion barriers because of its low process temperature and its ability to produce uniform films.

Thickness dependence of the properties of epitaxial MgB2 thin films grown by hybrid physical-chemical vapor deposition

open access: yes, 2003
We have studied the effect of deposition rate and layer thickness on the properties of epitaxial MgB2 thin films grown by hybrid physical-chemical vapor deposition on 4H-SiC substrates.

Pyramidal Structures on Yttria‐Stabilized Zirconia after High Temperature Exposure at 1500°C: New Features on an Old Material

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
New features on yttria‐stabilized zirconia after exposure at 1500°C: Newly discovered pyramidal structures on an old material. After exposure at 1550°C on the cross section of YSZ new features, namely pyramidal structures are discovered. These structures grow with time, increase in numbers, appear as singularities, are often arranged in strings, and ...

Size-selective nanoparticle growth on few-layer graphene films

open access: yes, 2010
We observe that gold atoms deposited by physical vapor deposition onto few layer graphenes condense upon annealing to form nanoparticles with an average diameter that is determined by the graphene film thickness.
