Microbiome−host proteostasis crosstalk—An emerging perspective on mechanisms and interventions toward healthy longevity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Proteostasis and the gut microbiota play a key role in shaping host physiology. Microbiota‐derived metabolites, vitamins, and RNA modulate host proteostasis. Findings from model systems, including C. elegans, indicate microbes can either stabilize or disrupt host proteostasis.

Phosphoinositides and inositol phosphates as molecular glues

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Inositol phosphates (IPs) and phosphoinositides (PIPs) regulate diverse eukaryotic processes. Beyond recruiting signaling proteins or acting as structural cofactors, recent studies suggest they mediate protein–protein interactions as natural molecular glues.

Psychological perceptions matter: Developing the reactions to the physical work environment scale

open access: yes, 2019
There is clear research evidence that physical work environments (i.e., material spaces and objects) influence employee performance and wellbeing. As a result, these environments have received significant attention from both practitioners and researchers.

Uncovering the pattern of physical behaviours among Swedish ambulance personnel: is the type of work shift important?

open access: yesBMC Public Health
Background Previous studies indicate that ambulance personnel have an increased risk of ill health. Shift work and time spent on physical behaviours during work and leisure are factors that could be related to health, however the research is limited ...

Structural insights and therapeutic targets in Acinetobacter baumannii capsule biosynthesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Hypervirulent KL49 A. baumannii's capsular polysaccharide contains the nonulosonic acid 8‐epi‐Leg5,7Ac2, synthesized by epimerization via ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC. Crystal structures of ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC reveal their role in CMP‐Leg5,7Ac2 synthesis and regioselective C8 epimerization.

Differences in call centre agents’ perception of their job characteristics, physical work environment and wellbeing [PDF]

open access: yesProblems and Perspectives in Management, 2016
Orientation: job characteristics and physical work environment of call centres have an impact on the wellbeing of call centre agents. Research purpose: the aim of this study is to determine whether there are differences in male and female call centre ...

Design and analysis strategies for robust microbiome ageing research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The gut microbiome changes with age and associates with age‐related morbidity and mortality, establishing it as a potential biomarker and intervention target for ageing. Realising this potential requires methodological rigour, yet distinguishing biological signals from methodological artefacts remains challenging across cohorts. This review provides an

Reconstructing enzyme evolution by protein engineering

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Natural enzyme evolution can be retraced by protein engineering methods such as directed evolution, rational design, and ancestral sequence reconstruction. These approaches reveal how enzymes emerged from ligand‐binding scaffolds, developed varying substrate preferences, formed oligomeric complexes, adapted to environmental changes, and evolved novel ...

Building health: an epidemiological study of "sick building syndrome" in the Whitehall II study

open access: yes, 2006
Objectives: Sick building syndrome (SBS) is described as a group of symptoms attributed to the physical environment of specific buildings. Isolating particular environmental features responsible for the symptoms has proved difficult.

Prediction of objectively measured physical activity and sedentariness among blue-collar workers using survey questionnaires [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
OBJECTIVES: We aimed at developing and evaluating statistical models predicting objectively measured occupational time spent sedentary or in physical activity from self-reported information available in large epidemiological studies and surveys.METHODS ...
