On-chip integrated laser-driven particle accelerator [PDF]

open access: yesScience, 2019
Miniaturizing particle accelerators Particle accelerators are usually associated with large national facilities. Because photons are able to impart momentum to electrons, there are also efforts to develop laser-based particle accelerators.

The impact of frailty syndrome on skeletal muscle histology: preventive effects of exercise

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Frailty syndrome exacerbates skeletal muscle degeneration via increased ECM deposition and myofiber loss. This study, using a murine model, demonstrates that endurance exercise attenuates these histopathological alterations, preserving muscle integrity. Findings support exercise as a viable strategy to counteract frailty‐induced musculoskeletal decline

Profiling the effect of low frequency mechanical vibration on the metabolic and oxidative stress responses of A431 carcinoma

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
20 Hz mechanical vibration induced A431 cancer cells' apoptosis without such effect on other healthy cell lines of L929 and C2C12. Lowered glucose consumption is observed specifically in A431. The expressions of ROS, HMGB1, and HSP1 levels initially increase and subsequently decrease in the cancer cell line, as opposed to L929 and C2C12, which ...
