Abstract One of the significant challenges faced in shield tunnel construction is the risk of collapse resulting from abrupt changes in soil conditions in advance of the working face, particularly within the sandy cobble stratum. This study aims to effectively manage these sudden variations and to further investigate the failure mechanisms associated ...

Estimating the water holding capacity of the critical zone using near‐surface geophysics
In high‐mountain watersheds, the critical zone holds crucial life‐sustaining water stores in the form of shallow groundwater aquifers. To better understand the role that the critical zone plays in moderating hydrologic response to fluxes at the surface ...

Resonance‐induced restoration of rock permeability degraded by heavy components of crude oil
Resonance‐induced changes occur in filtration properties of sedimentary rocks in crude paraffin oil flow under acoustic vibrations. Experimental data on (a) pressure drop; (b) permeability; (c) pressure at the rock inlet; and (d) pressure at the rock outlet are presented.

Rockburst prediction based on data preprocessing and hyperband‐RNN‐DNN
A data preprocessing workflow is proposed to address challenges in rockburst data analysis. Coupled algorithms preprocess the data set, and hyperband optimization is used to enhance RNN performance. Results show that preprocessing improves accuracy, while dense layers enhance model stability and prediction performance.
