Wheat leaf rust races/pathotypes in Slovakia in 1999-2000

open access: yesPlant Protection Science, 2001
Virulence of the wheat leaf rust populations of 1999 and 2000 from Slovakia was studied on Thatcher near-isogenic lines (NILs) with genes Lr1, Lr2a, Lr2b, Lr2c, Lr3a, Lr9, Lr10 (only in 2000), Lr11, Lr15, Lr17, Lr19, Lr21, Lr23, Lr24, Lr26 and Lr28 ...

Resistance spectra of six elite breeding lines of upland rice to Pyricularia grisea [PDF]

open access: yesPesquisa Agropecuária Brasileira, 2003
The objective of this work was to evaluate the resistance spectra of six elite breeding lines of rice, developed for improved yield and grain quality, in inoculation tests in the greenhouse and in the field.

Cardiovascular Remodeling Experienced by Real-World, Unsupervised, Young Novice Marathon Runners. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Aims: Marathon running is a popular ambition in modern societies inclusive of non-athletes. Previous studies have highlighted concerning transient myocardial dysfunction and biomarker release immediately after the race.

Variation in the Maternal Corticotrophin Releasing Hormone-Binding Protein (CRH-BP) Gene and Birth Weight in Blacks, Hispanics and Whites [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Background: Given the unique role of the corticotrophin-releasing hormone (CRH) system in human fetal development, the aim of our study was to estimate the association of birth weight with DNA sequence variation in three maternal genes involved in ...

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Physiological Races of Lucilia sericata, Mg [PDF]

open access: yesNature, 1936
RATCLIFFE1 has recently suggested that there may possibly be two physiological races of L. sericata, as the length of the pupal period of this insect at 32°C. in Scotland is 5.4 days while in France at the same temperature it is 8 days. This latter figure is quoted from a paper by Davies2 who, in turn, is only quoting the work of Cousin3 in France ...

Controlling the uncontrolled: Are there incidental experimenter effects on physiologic responding? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
The degree to which experimenters shape participant behavior has long been of interest in experimental social science research. Here, we extend this question to the domain of peripheral psychophysiology, where experimenters often have direct, physical ...

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Cell surface interactome analysis identifies TSPAN4 as a negative regulator of PD‐L1 in melanoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Using cell surface proximity biotinylation, we identified tetraspanin TSPAN4 within the PD‐L1 interactome of melanoma cells. TSPAN4 negatively regulates PD‐L1 expression and lateral mobility by limiting its interaction with CMTM6 and promoting PD‐L1 degradation.
