Physiological effect of circulating glucagon on the hepatic membrane potential
The pancreatic hormone glucagon hyperpolarizes the liver cell membrane under various conditions. Here we investigated the physiological relevance of this effect by testing the influence of infusions of glucagon antiserum on the liver cell membrane ...

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Accelerated aging as vigor test for sunn hemp seeds
: This study aimed to determine the most appropriate method to assess the sunn hemp ( Crotalaria juncea L.) seed vigor in the accelerated aging test. Five seed lots from harvest 2007/2008 were evaluated for germination, vigor and seedling emergence in ...

Near-infrared spectroscopy (NIR) for classifying the physiological quality of canola seeds [PDF]
: The use of high-quality seeds is essential in production systems. NIR spectroscopy, combined with chemometric methods, is a promising, rapid, nondestructive, and easy-to-use tool for assessing seed physiological potential.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Primary root emission and electrical conductivity test for wheat seed vigor evaluation [PDF]
: Primary root emission and electrical conductivity tests are rapid tests used to estimate the seed vigor of various species. However, few studies are directed to wheat seeds.

Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

New Proposal to Increase Soybean Seed Vigor: Collection Based on Pod Position
The seed lots were evaluated based on their viability and vigor, which vary according to their origin and the locations where the seeds were produced. However, differences in vigor can be observed within a single seed lot, resulting from the deposition ...

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.
