Phytol in a pharma-medico-stance

Chemico-Biological Interactions, 2015
This study aims to review phytol (PYT), through published articles, periodicals, magazines and patents, which were retrieved from the PM, SD, WS, SP; DII, WIPO, CIPO, USPTO and INPI databases. Among the 149 articles and 62 patents, 27.52% articles and 87.09% patients were found on the searched topic, PYT and its sources and synthesis and metabolism ...

Gas chromatographic determination of phytol

Analytical Biochemistry, 1966
Abstract An accurate and sensitive procedure has been developed for determining the diterpene phytol, C20H39OH. Vapor-phase chromatography on a column consisting of 20% silicone fluid (SF-96) on an inert support of 60 80 mesh firebrick resulted in complete pyrolysis of the phytol to a mixture of presumed phytadienes when the injector ...

Phytol metabolism in the bovine

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Lipids and Lipid Metabolism, 1966
Summary 1. Phytol, dihydrophytol and phytanic acid were identified in amounts below 1% of the total lipids in rumen contents from two normal lactating Holstein cows. The plasma level of phytanate measured in one of these animals was of the same magnitude as that found in the rumen and that reported in milk fat. 2.

Gasoline production from phytol

Fuel, 2010
Phytol, a diterpene alcohol found in many plants, has been subjected to catalytic cracking and a large enough sample for ASTM gasoline analysis has been obtained. The product shows a high octane number and meets many of the ASTM requirements for gasoline. Such a process represents a renewable route to motor fuels.

Phytol, SSADH inhibitory diterpenoid ofLactuca sativa

Archives of Pharmacal Research, 2002
The succinic semialdehyde dehydrogenase (SSADH) inhibitory component was isolated from the EtOAc fraction of Lactuca sativa through repeated column chromatography; then, it was identified as phytol, a diterpenoid, based on the interpretation of several spectral data.

Phytol is lethal for Amacr-deficient mice

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Molecular and Cell Biology of Lipids, 2015
α-Methylacyl-CoA racemase (Amacr) catalyzes the racemization of the 25-methyl group in C27-intermediates in bile acid synthesis and in methyl-branched fatty acids such as pristanic acid, a metabolite derived from phytol. Consequently, patients with Amacr deficiency accumulate C27-bile acid intermediates, pristanic and phytanic acid and display ...

Phytol Derivatives as Drug Resistance Reversal Agents

ChemMedChem, 2014
AbstractPhytol was chemically transformed into fifteen semi‐synthetic derivatives, which were evaluated for their antibacterial and drug resistance reversal potential in combination with nalidixic acid against E. coli strains CA8000 and DH5α. The pivaloyl (4), 3,4,5‐trimethoxybenzoyl (9), 2,3‐dichlorobenzoyl (10), cinnamoyl (11), and aldehyde (14 ...

Synthetic adjuvants for vaccine formulations: phytol derivatives

Expert Opinion on Drug Delivery, 2013
The development of vaccines is considered a key milestone in preventive medicine. There is no comparable cost-effective means for controlling or eradicating infectious diseases. Yet, a persistent societal problem is the concern about vaccine's safety and long-term effects, and this caters to detractors of vaccination.
