First report of Giardia duodenalis infection in the crested porcupine (Hystrix cristata L., 1758)

open access: yesInternational Journal for Parasitology: Parasites and Wildlife, 2020
Italy is the only European country where the crested porcupine (Hystrix cristata) lives. A parasitological investigation was performed on faecal samples, aimed to evaluate Giardia and other parasites in a free-ranging crested porcupine population in ...

Pathogenic Germline PALB2 and RAD50 Variants in Patients With Relapsed Ewing Sarcoma

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Approximately 10% of patients with Ewing sarcoma (EwS) have pathogenic germline variants. Here, we report two cases: first, a novel germline pathogenic variant in partner and localizer of BRCA2 (PALB2) in a patient with a late EwS relapse. Its impact on homologous recombination is demonstrated, and breast cancer risk is discussed.

Improved Outcomes for Older Children, Adolescents, and Young Adults With Neuroblastoma in the Post‐Immunotherapy Era: An Updated Report From the International Neuroblastoma Risk Group

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background We describe clinical and biologic characteristics of neuroblastoma in older children, adolescents, and young adults (OCAYA); describe survival outcomes in the post‐immunotherapy era; and identify if there is an age cut‐off that best discriminates outcomes.

Doping and temperature dependence of incommensurate antiferromagnetism in underdoped lanthanum cuprates

open access: yes, 2001
The doping, temperature and energy dependence of the dynamical spin structure factors of the underdoped lanthanum cuprates in the normal state is studied within the t-J model using the fermion-spin transformation technique. Incommensurate peaks are found

DELP Treatment on Vision and Retinal Microcirculation in Patients With Acute Ischemic Stroke: Report of Five Cases and Literature Review

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background The delipid extracorporeal lipoprotein filter from plasma (DELP) treatment can effectively reduce blood lipid, increase blood flow, and improve neurological deficits in patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS). However, its effect on vision and retinal microcirculation in stroke patients has never been reported.

Identification and characterization of the zebrafish glutathione S‐transferase Pi‐1

open access: yesJournal of Biochemical and Molecular Toxicology, 2017
AbstractZebrafish has in recent years emerged as a popular vertebrate model for use in pharmacological and toxicological studies. While there have been sporadic studies on the zebrafish glutathione S‐transferases (GSTs), the zebrafish GST gene superfamily still awaits to be fully elucidated.

Intraoperative Collection of Ascitic Fluid With Intra‐ or Postoperative Reinfusion in Ovarian Cancer: Safety and Feasibility of a Roller Pumping Method

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Patients with ovarian cancer often present with massive ascites, leading to significant protein loss during surgical procedures. Although cell‐free concentrated ascites reinfusion therapy (CART) is used in palliative settings to mitigate protein loss, its application in intraoperative settings remains unexplored.

α1Proteinase inhibitor regulates CD4+ lymphocyte levels and is rate limiting in HIV-1 disease. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
BackgroundThe regulation of adult stem cell migration through human hematopoietic tissue involves the chemokine CXCL12 (SDF-1) and its receptor CXCR4 (CD184). In addition, human leukocyte elastase (HLE) plays a key role.

Enteropathogenic E. coli shows delayed attachment and host response in human jejunum organoid‐derived monolayers compared to HeLa cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC) infects the human intestinal epithelium, resulting in severe illness and diarrhoea. In this study, we compared the infection of cancer‐derived cell lines with human organoid‐derived models of the small intestine. We observed a delayed in attachment, inflammation and cell death on primary cells, indicating that host ...
