Generalized Picone identity for Finsler -Laplacian and its applications

open access: yesUkrains’kyi Matematychnyi Zhurnal, 2021
UDC 517.9 We prove a generalized Picone-type identity for Finsler -Laplacian and use it to establish some qualitative results for some boundary-value problems involving Finsler -Laplacian.

Nitric Oxide Intensification Associated With STEVE: TIMED/SABER‐REGO Observations and Comparison With GITM Simulation

open access: yesAGU Advances, Volume 7, Issue 3, June 2026.
Abstract Strong Thermal Emission Velocity Enhancement (STEVE) is a nightsky optical phenomenon of great research interest in recent years. STEVE is recognized to be co‐located with a latitudinally narrow channel of fast westward ion drifts, also known as “subauroral ion drifts” (SAID).

Some qualitative questions on the equation −div(a(x,u,∇u))=f(x,u)

open access: yes, 2017
In this article, we establish several applications of Picone's identity for the operator of the form−div(a(x,u,∇u)), such as Hardy type inequality, Sturmian comparison theorem, monotonicity property of the first eigenvalue, nonexistence of positive ...

Second‐Scale Formation of Non‐Field‐Aligned Plasma Irregularities Observed From a High‐Altitude 43‐Cassiopeiids Fireball

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 10, 28 May 2026.
Abstract High‐altitude optical meteors initiating above 150 km are exceedingly rare, with confirmed observations largely confined to the Leonids. Using the Meteor and ionospheric Irregularity Observation System, we recorded a bright 43‐Cassiopeiids fireball with heterogeneous material. It initiated luminously at an exceptional altitude of 157.8 ± $\pm $

Changes in Alcohol Retail Laws and Foot Traffic at Liquor Stores

open access: yesApplied Economic Perspectives and Policy, Volume 48, Issue 2, Page 447-461, May 2026.
ABSTRACTWe study how expanding alcohol availability at grocery and convenience stores affects consumer traffic in liquor stores by leveraging recent changes in state‐level alcohol distribution laws in a difference‐in‐difference quasi‐experimental design.

Sturmian comparison results for quasilinear elliptic equations in $R^n$

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Differential Equations, 2007
We obtain Sturmian comparison results for the nonnegative solutions to Dirichlet problems associated with $p$-Laplacian operators. From Picone-type identities [4,9], we obtain results comparing solutions of two types of equations.

Predicting Direction of High‐Speed Wind: A Bayesian Approach to Conditional Cylindrical Distributions

open access: yesEnvironmetrics, Volume 37, Issue 4, May 2026.
ABSTRACT High‐speed winds pose several dangers to both the built environment and the natural environment, affecting human lives and livelihoods, as well as endangering wildlife. On the other hand, high‐speed winds can be beneficially harnessed through the optimal orientation of turbines to maximize wind energy production.

Picone's identity and the moving plane procedure

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Differential Equations, 1995
Summary: Positive solutions of a class of nonlinear elliptic partial differential equations are shown to be symmetric by means of the moving plane argument coupled with spectral theory results and Picone's identity. The method adapts easily to situations where the moving plane procedure gives rise to variational problems with positive eigenfunctions.

Extension of Díaz-Saá's inequality in RN and application to a system of p-Laplacian

open access: yes, 2021
The purpose of this paper is to extend the Díaz-Saá's inequality for the unbounded domains as RN: [fórmula]. The proof is based on the Picone's identity which is very useful in problems involving p-Laplacian. In a second part, we study some properties of

Fate of orphans of Canada geese harvested by hunters in Connecticut, USA, depends upon which month the parents were killed

open access: yesWildlife Biology, Volume 2026, Issue 3, May 2026.
Little is known about what happens to juvenile birds after one or both of their parents are harvested by hunters during the post‐fledging dependency period. Here, we compare the fate of juvenile Canada geese Branta canadensis that lost ≥ 1 parent to hunters (orphans) during this period to other juveniles that retained both parents (non‐orphans). For 25
