Disarticulations in Naples: Cultural political ecology, the green transition, and labour unrest at a Whirlpool factory

open access: yesTransactions of the Institute of British Geographers, Volume 51, Issue 1, March 2026.
Abstract This article develops a cultural political ecology approach to disarticulations and labour unrest. The reference point for analysis is a struggle at a Whirlpool factory in Naples that the company announced would close in 2019, six months after signing an agreement with the Italian government, including a multi‐million investment plan.

Stability and Convergence of Solutions to Volterra Integral Equations on Time Scales

open access: yesDiscrete Dynamics in Nature and Society, Volume 2015, Issue 1, 2015., 2015
We consider Volterra integral equations on time scales and present our study about the long time behavior of their solutions. We provide sufficient conditions for the stability and investigate the convergence properties when the kernel of the equations vanishes at infinity.

Local scale-invariance in ageing phenomena

open access: yes, 1999
Many materials quenched into their ordered phase undergo ageing and there show dynamical scaling. For any given dynamical exponent z, this can be extended to a new form of local scale-invariance which acts as a dynamical symmetry.

Bifurcation for indefinite‐weighted p$p$‐Laplacian problems with slightly subcritical nonlinearity

open access: yesMathematische Nachrichten, Volume 297, Issue 11, Page 3982-4002, November 2024.
Abstract We study a superlinear elliptic boundary value problem involving the p$p$‐Laplacian operator, with changing sign weights. The problem has positive solutions bifurcating from the trivial solution set at the two principal eigenvalues of the corresponding linear weighted boundary value problem.

Maximum Principles for Discrete and Semidiscrete Reaction‐Diffusion Equation

open access: yesDiscrete Dynamics in Nature and Society, Volume 2015, Issue 1, 2015., 2015
We study reaction‐diffusion equations with a general reaction function f on one‐dimensional lattices with continuous or discrete time ux′ (or Δtux)=k(ux-1-2ux+ux+1)+f(ux), x∈Z. We prove weak and strong maximum and minimum principles for corresponding initial‐boundary value problems.

Attainability of the fractional Hardy constant with nonlocal mixed boundary conditions. Applications

open access: yes, 2017
The first goal of this paper is to study necessary and sufficient conditions to obtain the attainability of the \textit{fractional Hardy inequality } $$\Lambda_{N}\equiv\Lambda_{N}(\Omega):=\inf_{\{\phi\in \mathbb{E}^s(\Omega, D), \phi\neq 0\}} \dfrac ...

Nonzero radial solutions for a class of elliptic systems with nonlocal BCs on annular domains [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We provide new results on the existence, non-existence, localization and multiplicity of nontrivial solutions for systems of Hammerstein integral equations.

Interval Oscillation Criteria for Second‐Order Nonlinear Forced Dynamic Equations with Damping on Time Scales

open access: yesAbstract and Applied Analysis, Volume 2013, Issue 1, 2013., 2013
By using the Riccati transformation technique and constructing a class of Philos‐type functions on time scales, we establish some new interval oscillation criteria for the second‐order damped nonlinear dynamic equations with forced term of the form (r(t)xΔ(t)) Δ + p(t)xΔσ(t) + q(t)(xσ(t)) α = F(t, xσ(t)) on a time scale 𝕋 which is unbounded, where α is

Oscillations and unboundedness of solutions of superlinear-sublinear parabolic equations via Picone-type inequality [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
A Picone-type inequality is established for a class of superlinear-sublinear parabolic equations, and oscillatory behavior and unboundedness of solutions are investigated by using the Piconetype ...

Why diffusion‐based preconditioning of Richards equation works: Spectral analysis and computational experiments at very large scale

open access: yesNumerical Linear Algebra with Applications, Volume 31, Issue 1, January 2024.
Abstract We consider here a cell‐centered finite difference approximation of the Richards equation in three dimensions, averaging for interface values the hydraulic conductivity K=K(p)$$ K=K(p) $$, a highly nonlinear function, by arithmetic, upstream and harmonic means.
