Ellagic Acid Attenuates Oxidative Stress and Improves Cardiovascular Function Following Myocardial Infarction in Ovariectomized Rats

open access: yesJournal of Cellular and Molecular Medicine, Volume 30, Issue 12, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Oestrogen deficiency increases oxidative stress and reduces nitric oxide (NO) bioavailability, contributing to cardiac fibrosis following myocardial infarction (MI). This study investigated whether ellagic acid (EA), a natural antioxidant, attenuates post‐MI cardiac fibrosis in ovariectomized rats by reducing oxidative stress and pro ...

Empagliflozin and renal histological changes in an experimental model of heart failure in male rats

open access: yesPhysiological Reports, Volume 14, Issue 12, June 2026.
In a non‐diabetic rat model of heart failure, empagliflozin preserved renal structure by attenuating renal changes associated with congestion and tubular atrophy, while modulating inflammatory cell infiltration, characterized by increased CD206‐positive macrophages and reduced CD3‐positive T cells.

Breaking the Heat Tolerance Response: The Crucial Role of MFAP4 in Combating Heat‐Induced Cardiac Injury

open access: yesThe FASEB Journal, Volume 40, Issue 10, 31 May 2026.
MFAP4 deficiency exacerbates heatstroke outcomes, accelerating hyperthermia, delaying recovery, reducing survival, and worsening cardiac injury. Conversely, MFAP4 overexpression enhances cellular thermoresistance. MFAP4 orchestrates transcriptional reprogramming in response to HS.

Dual Knockout Models of the Spatially and Functionally Conserved rgra and rgrb Zebrafish Genes Reveal the Requirement of RGR for the Integrity of Cone‐Mediated Photopic Vision, the Photopic Visual Cycle and Bruch's Membrane Morphology

open access: yesThe FASEB Journal, Volume 40, Issue 10, 31 May 2026.
This study investigates the role of the vision gene RGR using novel dual knockout zebrafish models. The loss of rgra and rgrb results in zebrafish larvae having reduced visual function and altered retinoid profiles under light but not dark conditions. The OKR phenotype is enhanced under higher light intensities.

TAK1 Regulates Skeletal Muscle Mass, Hypertrophic Signaling, and Metabolic Homeostasis in Male and Female Mice

open access: yesThe FASEB Journal, Volume 40, Issue 10, 31 May 2026.
Targeted inactivation of TAK1 induces more rapid muscle atrophy in male mice compared to female mice. In addition, loss of TAK1 impairs mechanical overload–induced phosphorylation of p70S6K and rpS6, leading to blunted muscle hypertrophic growth. TAK1 inactivation also promotes lipid accumulation while reducing fatty acid metabolism in skeletal muscle ...
