A correlated-cluster model and the ridge phenomenon in hadron–hadron collisions
A study of the near-side ridge phenomenon in hadron–hadron collisions based on a cluster picture of multiparticle production is presented. The near-side ridge effect is shown to have a natural explanation in this context provided that clusters are ...

Refining the fundamental plane of accreting black holes [PDF]
The idea of a unified description of supermassive and stellar black holes has been supported by the extension of the empirical radio/X-ray correlation from X-ray binaries to active galactic nuclei through the inclusion of a mass term.

Educing coherent eddy structures in air curtain systems [PDF]
The work reported here comes within a broader research program dealing with ambiance separation or confining by means of air curtains (plane air jets). The process is studied experimentally by Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV).

Projecting on a suitable subset of coordinates, a picture is constructed in which the conformal boundary of $AdS_5\times S^5$ and that of the plane wave resulting in the Penrose limit are located at the same line. In a second line of arguments all $AdS_5\

Perspective. Theories and experiments on the “veduta vincolata” (restricted sight) [PDF]
The modern perspective admits the free rotation of the eye situated in the projection centre (restricted sight) and with this, and with the motion of the eye, it is capable of simulating even the impression of curvature of the visual field that Panofsky ...

Constraints on the radio loud/radio quiet dichotomy from the fundamental plane [PDF]
The fundamental plane for black hole activity constitutes a tight correlation between jet power, X-ray luminosity, and black hole mass. Under the assumption that a Blandford-Znajek-type mechanism, which relies on black hole spin, contributes non ...

In a soliton sector of a quantum field theory, it is often convenient to expand the quantum fields in terms of normal modes. Normal mode creation and annihilation operators can be normal ordered, and their normal ordered products have vanishing ...

Eye point-of-regard system [PDF]
System measures intersection of line of sight and eye point of regard /EPR/ for a human operator in visual scanning system. Device measures two head to reference angles with EPR system and adds them with eye to head angles, yielding a dc signal ...

Canted standing spin-wave modes of permalloy thin films observed by ferromagnetic resonance
Non-collinear spin structures in materials that combine perpendicular and in-plane magnetic anisotropies are of great technological interest for microwave and spin wave-assisted magnetization switching.

Tiling pictures of the plane with dominoes
This report is concerned with the problem of tiling finite subsets of the square grid with \(( 2 \times 1 )\)-dominoes. Such tilings (and their existence) are closely related to height functions which essentially depend on the number of white and black squares along edge paths in a checkerboard colouring.
