Distribution of Interstellar Reddening Material in the Galactic Plane [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Astronomy and Space Sciences, 1987
By using the recently determined color excess and distance data of classical cepheids by Kim(1985), the distribution of interstellar reddening material was studied to see the general picture of the average rate of interstellar absorption out to about 7 ...

The “Eternal Mystery of the Picture Plane”: Leo Steinberg’s Unfinished Study on Titian [PDF]

open access: yesGetty Research Journal, 2020
In the mid to late 1960s, art critic Leo Steinberg (1920–2011) carried out research on Titian that was never published and has remained so far unknown to scholars. By examining research material now held in the special collections of the Getty Research Institute, this study reconstructs Steinberg’s inquiry on the topic and discusses more broadly its ...

Change of the plane of oscillation of a Foucault pendulum from simple pictures [PDF]

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Physics, 2010
The change of the plane of oscillation of a Foucault pendulum is calculated without using equations of motion, the Gauss–Bonnet theorem, parallel transport, or assumptions that are difficult to explain.

Organoids in pediatric cancer research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Organoid technology has revolutionized cancer research, yet its application in pediatric oncology remains limited. Recent advances have enabled the development of pediatric tumor organoids, offering new insights into disease biology, treatment response, and interactions with the tumor microenvironment.

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

SPATIAL PARAMETRIZATION OF THE KAZAKH LANGUAGE PICTURE OF THE WORLD

open access: yesВестник Кемеровского государственного университета, 2013
This article examines the layered structure of the spatial picture of the world, reflected in the Kazakh language. The Kazakh language picture of the world represents the space as an infinite horizontal plane, conventionally denoted as «steppe».

The accuracy of anatomic landmarks on the occlusal plane: a comparative study between conventional and 3D image method

open access: yesBMC Oral Health
Background To establish the occlusal plane, the conventional methods for facial analysis to gain accurate alignment of the occlusal plane are inadequate, while 3D technologies are an ideal diagnostic tool.

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.
