Structural Colors from Modulated Topological Defects in Molecular Smectic Liquid Crystals

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Rather than using dyes and pigments, nature produces the colors of some butterflies and beetles through optical interference phenomena. This study describes an original biomimetic strategy exploiting the spontaneous formation of modulated linear defects in thin films of 8CB, a common molecular liquid crystal.

Anticancer and immune effect of the extracted brown Raoultella planticola pigment on murine mammary adenocarcinoma (AMN3)

open access: yesOpen Veterinary Journal
Background: Raoultella planticola is a developing pathogen that can infect both humans and animals. Raoultella spp. commonly colonize the gastrointestinal and upper respiratory systems. It usually causes pneumonia, bile tract infections, and bacteremia.

The polarized expression of Na+,K+-ATPase in epithelia depends on the association between beta-subunits located in neighboring cells [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
The polarized distribution of Na+,K+-ATPase plays a paramount physiological role, because either directly or through coupling with co- and countertransporters, it is responsible for the net movement of, for example, glucose, amino acids, Ca2+, K+, Cl ...

Proteasome inhibition and ROS generation by 4-nerolidylcatechol induces melanoma cell death [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Induction of apoptotic cell death in response to chemotherapy and other external stimuli has proved extremely difficult in melanoma, leading to tumor progression, metastasis formation and resistance to therapy.

Soft, Multi‐Wavelength Photoplethysmography Enables Reliable Neonatal Blood Pressure Monitoring Via Error Stratification

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A soft hybrid multi‐wavelength PPG wearable acquires neonatal signals. Synchronized PPG and invasive ABP data are segmented into fixed windows. A 1D‐EfficientNet model predicts segment‐level SBP and DBP. Model performance is examined with retrospective subgroup analysis across acquisition conditions.

The lncRNA RMEL3 protects immortalized cells from serum withdrawal‐induced growth arrest and promotes melanoma cell proliferation and tumor growth

open access: yes, 2018
RMEL3 is a recently identified lncRNA associated with BRAFV600E mutation and melanoma cell survival. Here, we demonstrate strong and moderate RMEL3 upregulation in BRAF and NRAS mutant melanoma cells, respectively, compared to melanocytes.

Adult limbal neurosphere cells: a potential autologous cell resource for retinal cell generation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The Corneal limbus is a readily accessible region at the front of the eye, separating the cornea and sclera. Neural colonies (neurospheres) can be generated from adult corneal limbus in vitro.

An Aggregation‐Induced Polymerization Poly(Disulfide)‐Drug Nanoplatform for Autoimmune Uveitis Therapy via Inhibiting the cGAS‐STING Pathway

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A cationic poly(disulfide)‐drug nanoplatform (LA/DexP) was developed to treat experimental autoimmune uveitis (EAU). With potent blood‐retinal barrier penetrability, LA/DexP releases DSP in response to high ROS and scavenges cfDNA to inhibit the cGAS‐STING signaling pathway.
