The electric charge of pigment granules in pigment cells

Biosensors and Bioelectronics, 2001
Black pigment cells called melanophores change colour in response to environmental changes and have lately been studied as promising biosensors. To further elucidate the intracellular processes involved in the colour changes of these cells, and to find optimal biosensing principles, the electric charge of intracellular pigment granules, melanosomes ...

BEHAVIOR OF PIGMENT CELLS ON LESIONS OF THE PIGMENTED NEVUS WITH VITILIGO

The Journal of Dermatology, 1979
ABSTRACTWhen vitiligo occurred on lesions of the pigmented nevus, the behavior of pigment cells in this nevus was investigated. Three cases of giant hairy nevi, seven cases of moles, three cases of Mongolian spots and eleven specimens in nine cases of halo nevi were used.

Pigmented squamous cell carcinoma

Journal of Cutaneous Pathology, 2000
Pigmented squamous cell carcinomas have been reported in the oral and ocular mucosae, but rarely in the skin. We present a case of pigmented squamous cell carcinoma of the forehead and review the current English literature. Pigmented squamous cell carcinoma can be confused with pigmented basal cell carcinomas and melanoma, especially those melanomas ...

The Lives of Pigment Cells

Clinics in Geriatric Medicine, 1986
Most pigment cells during embryogenesis arise from the cranial or truncal portion of the neural crest and migrate to the skin, hair bulbs, choroid of the eye, the inner ear, leptomeninges, and other tissues. Cells of the retinal pigment epithelium come from a different source, namely, the primitive forebrain, and are involved in the formation of the ...

Pigmented Clear Cell Acanthoma

The American Journal of Dermatopathology, 1994
We present five cases of macroscopically pigmented clear cell acanthomas. Masson-Fontana silver stain revealed dendritic melanocytes containing melanin granules in large numbers interspersed among the tumoral keratinocytes. The dendritic cells expressed S-100 protein.

Common Origin of Pigment Cells

Science, 1979
The fundamentally diverse vertebrate pigment cells, melanophores, xanthophores, and iridophores, contain pigmentary organelles known, respectively, as melanosomes, pterinosomes, and reflecting platelets. Their pigments are melanins, pteridines, and purines.

Pigmented Renal Cell Carcinoma

The American Journal of Surgical Pathology, 1995
A rare case of pigmented renal cell carcinoma is presented. The tumor was yellow, somewhat elastic, and soft with focal gray and tan areas. Microscopically, the tumor was a typical renal cell carcinoma of the clear-cell type. Tumor cells containing brown pigment in the cytoplasm were scattered throughout the tumor. Ultrastructurally, the electron-dense

Pigmented spindle cell naevus

British Journal of Dermatology, 1990
We report 22 cases of pigmented spindle cell naevus (PSCN). The usual appearance of these naevi is that of a heavily pigmented papule found mostly on the legs of young patients. Histologically, PSCN was characterized by symmetrical proliferation of spindle-shaped pigmented melanocytes grouped in large junctional nests.

The Focal differentiation of pigment cells

Journal of Experimental Zoology, 1979
AbstractA study has been made of the normal development and of the regeneration after excision of the groups of large pigment cells which form the spotted skin pattern of the gecko Eublepharis macularius, together with the effects of neonatal graft transplantation on this pattern.

Pigmented cells in the leptomeninges of the cat

The Anatomical Record, 1984
AbstractCells laden with pigment granules are described in the leptomeningeal tissues of the cat and kitten. These cells can be identified consistently by gross observation following vascular perfusion. The fusiform or stellate pigmented cells are most often found in association with the outermost layers of the arteries of the subarachnoid space.
