Pigment Effector Cells in a Cnidarian

Science, 1962
Chromatophore complexes are described in the siphonophore Nanomia cara . The dispersion and concentration of pigment are related to variation in light intensity and do not appear to be endogenously influenced. The pigment, possibly an ommochrome, has an absorption maximum at 465 to 470 mμ.

Pigmented Basal Cell Epithelioma

Archives of Dermatology, 1973
To the Editor.— The statement was made by Dr. C. De Fe ( Arch Dermatol 105:447-448, 1972) that "One of the things that has come through in our oncology section study was that those people who have blue eyes do not have pigmented basal cell epitheliomas." We wish to report that this statement is not consistent with our own experience.

Dermoscopy in Pigmented Squamous Cell Carcinoma

Journal of Cutaneous Medicine and Surgery, 2009
Background: The diagnosis of squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is, generally, a clinical diagnosis, but in some cases, when the lesion is pigmented, as in our case, the differential diagnosis between pigmented SCC and other pigmented skin lesions, in particular melanocytic lesions, is difficult.

Pigmented Squamous Cell Carcinoma

The American Journal of Dermatopathology, 2007
Although dendritic, melanin-containing melanocytes can be seen in a variety of epithelial neoplasms, only 0.01% to 7% of all squamous cell carcinomas (SCC) are pigmented. Furthermore, most reported cases have occurred in the oral and ocular mucosa, with relatively few cases reported to originate in the skin.

The Spleen Pigment Cells in Some Amphibia

Pigment Cell Research, 2004
It was demonstrated that the spleen pigment cells of Amphibia are macrophages: they show an ultrastructurally distinctive morphology, are able to phagocytose and react positively for non‐specific esterases. These pigmented macrophages express mRNA for tyrosinase and also they show dopa oxidase activity; therefore they are able to synthesize melanins ...

The Pigmented Basal Cell Epithelioma

Archives of Dermatology, 1967
In an electron microscopic study of the pigmented basal cell epithelioma, the high degree of activity of the dendritic cell is pointed out. The melanocyte is increased in size and the nucleus is multilobed. The cell is richly dendritic, and is producing an abundance of melanosomes.

Pigment Cell. Vol 1: Mechanisms in Pigmentation

Archives of Dermatology, 1973
This is an uneven volume containing clinical, histopathologic, and laboratory experimentation results reported at the Melanoma Conference in Sydney, Australia. Some of the papers have been omitted. In general, the book has been reproduced very well. The electron micrographs are well reproduced.

Tumors of Schwann’s Cells and Pigmented Skin Cells

Clinics in Laboratory Medicine, 1987
Both melanocytes and peripheral nerve sheath cells have an established origin from the neural crest. Benign and malignant neoplasms of these cells have distinctive ultrastructural features, but there is a group of tumors that has some characteristics of both cell types.
