The spectrum of the recycled PSR J0437-4715 and its white dwarf companion

open access: yes, 2011
We present extensive spectral and photometric observations of the recycled pulsar/white-dwarf binary containing PSR J0437-4715, which we analyzed together with archival X-ray and gamma-ray data, to obtain the complete mid-infrared to gamma-ray spectrum ...

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

Strength of reinforced concrete pile caps [PDF]

open access: yesStructures <html_ent glyph="@amp;" ascii="&"/> Buildings, 2003
Discrepancies exist in the provisions for the design of reinforced concrete pile caps with regard to shear, between the two UK codes for structural concrete design, namely BS 8110 and BS 5400. These discrepancies have arisen in the historical development of the codes, and the implication is that one code is unsafe or the other is over-conservative ...

Evidence for precession of the isolated neutron star RX J0720.4-3125

open access: yes, 2006
The XMM-Newton spectra of the isolated neutron star RX J0720.4-3125 obtained over 4.5 years can be described by sinusoidal variations in the inferred blackbody temperature, the size of the emitting area and the depth of the absorption line with a period ...

Discovery and Targeted Proteomic Studies Reveal Striatal Markers Validated for Huntington's Disease

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Clinical trials for Huntington's disease (HD) enrolling persons before clinical motor diagnosis (CMD) lack validated biomarkers. This study aimed to conduct an unbiased discovery analysis and a targeted examination of proteomic biomarkers scrutinized by clinical validation. Methods Cerebrospinal fluid was obtained from PREDICT‐HD and

THE RESEARCH OF THE VARIATION LAWS OF SETTLEMENT AND INTERNAL FORCE OF PILE GROUPS OF RAILWAY BRIDGE CAUSED BY PUMPING BRINE [PDF]

open access: yesCivil Engineering Journal, 2019
Taking Yingzigou Bridge of Dezhou-Dajiawa railway as the engineering background, the three-dimensional fluid-solid coupling models of pile group caps were established on the basis of five-stage field monitoring data of the settlement and groundwater ...

Extremely low long‐term erosion rates around the Gamburtsev Mountains in interior East Antarctica [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The high elevation and rugged relief (>3 km) of the Gamburtsev Subglacial Mountains (GSM) have long been considered enigmatic. Orogenesis normally occurs near plate boundaries, not cratonic interiors, and large‐scale tectonic activity last occurred in ...

Functional and Structural Evidence of Neurofluid Circuit Aberrations in Huntington Disease

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Disrupted neurofluid regulation may contribute to neurodegeneration in Huntington disease (HD). Because neurofluid pathways influence waste clearance, inflammation, and the distribution of central nervous system (CNS)–delivered therapeutics, understanding their dysfunction is increasingly important as targeted treatments emerge.

Geology of Tindfjallajökull volcano, Iceland [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The geology of Tindfjallajökull volcano, southern Iceland, is presented as a 1:50,000 scale map. Field mapping was carried out with a focus on indicators of past environments.

Trajectories of Physical Function in Canadian Children with Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, Accepted Article.
Objectives We describe trajectories of physical function in children newly diagnosed with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) and identify trajectories with persisting functional impairments and associated baseline characteristics. Methods We included patients enrolled in the Canadian Alliance of Pediatric Rheumatology Investigators (CAPRI) Registry ...
