Quantitation by ELISA of pili and sheep antibodies to the pili of Bacteroides nodosus

Australian Veterinary Journal, 1983
SUMMARY ELISA systems have been developed to quantitate the isotypic antibody response of sheep naturally infected with B. nodosus isolate 198 or injected with pili from isolate 198 in oil emulsion vaccines. The predominant humoral antibody detected following vaccination was IgG, with substantially lower amounts of IgG2 and IgM.

The Physiology and Biochemistry of Pili

1988
Publisher Summary This chapter reviews and discusses the structure and function of pili in light of recent advances employing biochemical, immunological, and genetic approaches. Bacterial “fimbriae” or “pili” are thin (2-1 2 nm diameter) non-flagellar protein filaments found on the surfaces of many types of bacteria.

Bacterial Adhesion Pili

2018
Escherichia coli bacterial cells produce multiple types of adhesion pili that mediate cell-cell and cell-host attachments. These pili (also called 'fimbriae') are large biopolymers that are comprised of subunits assembled via a sophisticated micro-machinery into helix-like structures that are anchored in the bacterial outer membrane.

Purification of somatic pili

1994
Publisher Summary This chapter discusses the procedure for the purification of somatic pili. Somatic pili mediate a multiplicity of other functions which, in the most general sense, enable bacteria to colonize host surfaces or to occupy inanimate environmental habitats.

Conjugative pili.

2014
AbstractThis chapter provides an overview of the biogenesis, structure and biological functions of conjugative pili. The discussion will focus mainly on the 2 more extensively characterized pili, F-pili elaborated by the Escherichia coli F plasmid and P-pili produced by E.
