“Rob, I know you're a doctor—can I have a word about your son.” The reception class nursery nurse's words chilled me to the bone, as Jamie (aged 5) had been off colour for a few days. “I am a bit worried about the rash he has got on his face. Three other children in the class have a similar rash—do you think it is infectious?” I looked at the bright ...

A Comparison of Upper Body Strength between Rock Climbing and Resistance Trained Men
Studies have shown that advanced rock climbers have greater upper body strength than that of novice climbers or non-climbers. The purpose of this study was to compare upper body strength between rock climbing and resistance trained men.

Capillary pinching in a pinched microchannel
We report a study of the capillary pinching of a gas bubble by a wetting liquid inside a pinched channel. The capillary pinching induces very reproducible bubbling, at a very well-defined frequency. There are two regimes associated with drip and jet bubbling.

Progress of the Plasma Centerpost for the PROTO-SPHERA Spherical Tokamak
Plasma properties can be useful in a wide spectrum of applications. Experimental projects on controlled nuclear fusion are the most challenging of these applications and, at the same time, the best way to approach plasma science.

Test–retest reliability of tip, key, and palmar pinch force sense in healthy adults
Background No previous studies have investigated the test–retest reliability of tip, key, and palmar pinch force sense in healthy adults. The present study explores the test-retest reliability of tip, key, and palmar pinch force sense for different force

PINCH in the cellular stress response to tau-hyperphosphorylation. [PDF]
Particularly interesting new cysteine- histidine- rich protein (PINCH) is an adaptor protein that our data have shown is required for neurite extension under stressful conditions. Our previous studies also report that PINCH is recalled by neurons showing

Z-pinch system for beam-plasma experiments
S.89A z-pinch system was developed which is suited for beam-plasma experiments. The beam can be a particle beam of fast heavy ions injected into the plasma to study the interaction processes of the projectiles with hot matter in terms of charge state and

Geometry‐driven thermal behavior in wire‐arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) influences microstructural evolution during nonequilibrium solidification of a chemically complex Fe–Cr–Nb–W–Mo–C nanocomposite system. By comparing different deposits configurations, distinct entropy–cooling rate correlations, segregation, and carbide evolution are revealed ...
