Non-continuous Froude number scaling for the closure depth of a cylindrical cavity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
A long, smooth cylinder is dragged through a water surface to create a cavity with an initially cylindrical shape. This surface void then collapses due to the hydrostatic pressure, leading to a rapid and axisymmetric pinch-off in a single point ...

Capillary pinching in a pinched microchannel

open access: yesPhysics of Fluids, 2007
We report a study of the capillary pinching of a gas bubble by a wetting liquid inside a pinched channel. The capillary pinching induces very reproducible bubbling, at a very well-defined frequency. There are two regimes associated with drip and jet bubbling.

Structural and Chemical Engineering of Sub‐Nanochannel Membranes Toward Ion Selectivity

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This review summarizes recent advances in structural and chemical engineering of sub‐nanochannels for ion selectivity. We first introduce fundamental ion transport mechanisms within sub‐nanochannels, followed by strategies to tune pore size, geometry, and surface functionalities, categorized into charge‐based, ion‐recognition, hydrophilic bonding, and ...

Pinch Keyboard: Natural Text Input for Immersive Virtual Environments [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
Text entry may be needed for system control tasks in immersive virtual environments, but no efficient and usable techniques exist. We present the pinch keyboard interaction technique, which simulates a standard QWERTY keyboard using Pinch Gloves™ and 6 ...

Mass density slope of elliptical galaxies from strong lensing and resolved stellar kinematics

open access: yes, 2018
We discuss constraints on the mass density distribution (parameterized as $\rho\propto r^{-\gamma}$) in early-type galaxies provided by strong lensing and stellar kinematics data. The constraints come from mass measurements at two `pinch' radii.

Fluorescent Nanosensor for Indole‐3‐Propionic Acid Detection in Gut Health Monitoring

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This work introduces a fluorescent nanosensor system with two optical modalities for detection of indole‐3‐propionic acid (IPA) gut metabolite: (1) blue‐emitting cationic conjugated polyelectrolyte (CP3) and (2) near‐infrared (NIR)‐emitting CP3‐wrapped single‐walled carbon nanotube (SWNT).

Breakup of diminutive Rayleigh jets [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Discharging a liquid from a nozzle at sufficient large velocity leads to a continuous jet that due to capillary forces breaks up into droplets. Here we investigate the formation of microdroplets from the breakup of micron-sized jets with ultra high-speed

Measurement of the impedance for a hybrid X-pinch load

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2021
For a hybrid X-pinch load assembled in parallel with the return-current rods, the impedance of the hybrid X-pinch load is important for current division between the load and the current rods.

Brief research report: Effects of Pinch deficiency on cartilage homeostasis in adult mice

open access: yesFrontiers in Cell and Developmental Biology, 2023
Pinch1 and Pinch2 are LIM domain-containing proteins with crucial functions in mediating focal adhesion formation. Our previous studies have demonstrated that Pinch1/2 expression is essential for cartilage and bone formation during skeletal development ...

Decellularized Extracellular Matrix (dECM) in Tendon Regeneration: A Comprehensive Review

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Decellularized Extracellular Matrix (dECM) offers a promising solution by replicating the native tendon microenvironment and promoting regeneration. This review highlights advances in the decellularization methods, as well as their integration with emerging technologies and translational progress in tendon tissue engineering.
