Creating Ti–Fe α/β Alloys by Diffusion‐Driven Solid‐State Processing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study proposes making alloys containing fast diffusing elements that are difficult to produce by ingot metallurgy, by diffusion‐driven solid‐state HIP processing of elemental powders and low‐temperature homogenisation. Here, novel Fe‐Ti α–β alloys are formed having fine α–β lamellae, a small β prior grain size without significant intermetallics ...

WinGEMS modelling and pinch analysis of a paper machine for utility reduction [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
A multi-ply paper machine process model was developed using WinGEMS and the stream data produced was used to conduct a pinch analysis. The product stream was excluded from the analysis and the composite curves display the enthalpy contained only in the ...

Evaluation of patients with carpal tunnel syndrome treated by endoscopic technique [PDF]

open access: yesActa Ortopédica Brasileira, 2014
Objective: To evaluate the postoperative results of patients with carpal tunnel syndrome by the endoscopic release technique with single portal. Methods: 78 patients (80 wrists) were evaluated preoperatively and postoperatively at 1, 3 and 6 months ...

Stretching the Printability Metric in Direct‐Ink Writing with Highly Extensible Yield‐Stress Fluids

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces “drawability” as a new metric for assessing printability in direct‐ink writing, focusing on gap‐spanning performance and speed robustness. By designing yield‐stress fluids with high extensibility, we demonstrate that extensional strain‐to‐break significantly enhances printability.

MotoGP and heterogeneous design [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
This chapter takes as its central focus the design of the MotoGP racing motorcycle. Our key aim in scrutinising MotoGP is to conceptualise the location of design and its meaning: to reflect upon where and how design happens; and to enrich understandings ...

The Pinch Technique and its Applications to Non-Abelian Gauge Theories [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Non-Abelian gauge theories, such as quantum chromodynamics (QCD) or electroweak theory, are best studied with the aid of Green's functions that are gauge-invariant off-shell, but unlike for the photon in quantum electrodynamics, conventional graphical ...

Associations of work activities requiring pinch or hand grip or exposure to hand-arm vibration with finger and wrist osteoarthritis: a meta-analysis

open access: yesScandinavian Journal of Work, Environment & Health, 2014
OBJECTIVE: We systematically reviewed the epidemiologic evidence linking finger and wrist osteoarthritis (OA) with work activities requiring pinch or hand grip or exposure to hand-arm vibration (HAV). METHODS: PubMed and Embase databases were searched up

Hand anthropometry and its relation to grip/pinch strength in children aged 5 to 13 years

open access: yesJournal of International Medical Research, 2020
Objective To evaluate the development level of children’s physiological hand shape indicators and their relationship with grip/pinch strength. Methods Hand shape and grip/pinch strength in 1255 Chinese children aged 5 to 13 years were prospectively ...

Electrode and Microstructure Dependence of Oxygen Diffusion in Ferroelectric Hafnium Zirconium Oxide Thin Films

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Significant nanoscale oxygen diffusion coefficient variations are measured in ferroelectric hafnium zirconium oxide films with grain boundaries and electrode interfaces exhibiting values 104 times larger than the grain cores. Overall coefficients are 10X larger for films prepared with metal nitride electrodes compared to refractory metals. New insights

Necessity's Sharp Pinch [PDF]

open access: yesMolecular Cell, 2004
In a recent issue of Cell, Hughes and coworkers (Mnaimneh et al., 2004) provide a great leap forward in the analysis of essential yeast genes by constructing a strain set that expresses each essential gene from a tetracycline-regulatable promoter.
