Medicinal Plants for the Treatment of Local Tissue Damage Induced by Snake Venoms: An Overview from Traditional Use to Pharmacological Evidence

open access: yesEvidence-Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine, Volume 2017, Issue 1, 2017., 2017
Snakebites are a serious problem in public health due to their high morbimortality. Most of snake venoms produce intense local tissue damage, which could lead to temporary or permanent disability in victims. The available specific treatment is the antivenom serum therapy, whose effectiveness is reduced against these effects.

Orphan crops of archaeology‐based crop history research

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, Volume 7, Issue 3, Page 562-589, May 2025.
Agrobiodiversity is central to sustainable farming worldwide. Cultivation, conservation and reintroduction of diverse plant species, including ‘forgotten’ and ‘underutilized’ crops, contribute to global agrobiodiversity, living ecosystems and sustainable food production.

Atividade tripanocida de Piper arboreum e Piper tuberculatum (Piperaceae)

open access: yes, 2014
In the scope of our ongoing research on bioactive agents from Brazilian flora, twenty-four extracts and fractions obtained from Piper arboreum Aub. and Piper tuberculatum Jacq. (Piperaceae) were screened for trypanocidal activity by using MTT colorimetric assay. The strongest activity was found in hexane fractions from the leaves of P.

Patterns in the genetic structure of 49 lowland rain forest tree species co‐distributed on opposite sides of the northern Andes

open access: yesBiotropica, Volume 56, Issue 2, March 2024.
The northern Andes are a major biogeographic dispersal barrier to lowland rain forest trees. We examine genetic diversity and divergence of paired populations of 49 rain forest tree species co‐distributed on opposite sides of the Andes and show that dispersal across or around this biogeographic barrier has left enduring genetic signatures. Abstract The

Management potentiality of emulsions based on essential oil of Piper macedoi and Piper arboreum for spider mite: a possible alternative for agroecological control

open access: yesNatural Product Research
Tetranychus urticae, popularly known as spider mite, is a pest that causes several economic losses to crops. Thus, this work evaluated the effect of essential oils from the leaves of Piper macedoi and Piper arboreum on managing T. urticae. The chemical compounds present in essential oils were identified by gas chromatography.
