Centrifugal-reciprocating compressor [PDF]

open access: yes, 1984
A centrifugal compressor is described which includes at least one pair of cylinders arranged in coaxial alignment and supported for angular displacement about a common axis of rotation normally disecting a common longitudinal axis of symmetry for the ...

Impact of Extrusion and Direct Calendering on Dry‐Coated Cathodes for Sulfidic All‐Solid‐State Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
This work demonstrates a parameter optimization for a scalable dry coating process of sulfidic ASSB cathodes (82 wt% CAM, 0.5 wt% PTFE binder) in dry room atmosphere. High‐shear extruder mixing and calendering are used to form a cathode film based on PTFE fibrillation.

Casimir pistons with hybrid boundary conditions

open access: yes, 2007
The Casimir effect giving rise to an attractive or repulsive force between the configuration boundaries that confine the massless scalar field is reexamined for one to three-dimensional pistons in this paper.

Direct Formation of Structural Components Using a Martian Soil Simulant. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Martian habitats are ideally constructed using only locally available soils; extant attempts to process structural materials on Mars, however, generally require additives or calcination.

Investigation of the Lithium Extraction Mechanism from LiNi0.6Mn0.2Co0.2O2 by Using Operando Neutron Diffraction in an All‐Solid‐State Battery

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
All‐solid‐state batteries (ASSB) are promising for high‐energy applications. Using a newly designed electrochemical cell, this study demonstrates reversible Li+ insertion/extraction in a thick ASSB and enables operando neutron diffraction. The results reveal structural evolution and H1‐H2 phase coexistence in LiNi0.6Mn0.2Co0.2O2 (NMC622), while ...

Adaptive liquid lens actuated by liquid crystal pistons.

open access: yesOptics Express, 2012
An adaptive liquid lens actuated by liquid crystal (LC) pistons is demonstrated. It adopts fluid pressure introduced by the reciprocating movement of LC droplets to regulate the liquid-air interface which, in turn, changes the optical power of the ...

Enhancing Ion‐Electron Transport in Positive Electrode of Solid‐State Lithium Metal Batteries With Multifunctional Catholyte Made of Polymer Mixed Ionic‐Electronic Conductor PEDOT:PSSTFSI and Li3InCl6

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
A mixed ion‐electron conducting polymer binder, PEDOT:PSSTFSI, enhances both ionic and electronic transport in NMC‐based positive electrode composite (PEC) for ASSBs. Optimal polymer loading (0.33 wt.% in PEC) provides the most balanced transport, with an effective conductivities (σel/σion) ratio closest to unity, enabling high discharge capacity at 1 ...

Motion of Pistons in Piston-Type Hydraulic Machines : 3rd. Report : Exponential Function-Type Piston

open access: yesBulletin of JSME, 1975
To stabilize the motion of pistons, it is possible to use such a piston that the film thickness between the cylinder and the piston varies exponentially with the longitudinal position along the piston. For piston-type hydraulic pumps and motors the numerical results indicate that in such a piston in which the film is thicker on the high pressure side ...
