Motion of Pistons in Piston-Type Hydraulic Machines : 3rd. Report : Exponential Function-Type Piston
To stabilize the motion of pistons, it is possible to use such a piston that the film thickness between the cylinder and the piston varies exponentially with the longitudinal position along the piston. For piston-type hydraulic pumps and motors the numerical results indicate that in such a piston in which the film is thicker on the high pressure side ...

Efficient pressure-transformer for fluids [PDF]
Fluid transformer utilizes fluid under pressure at one level to drive series of free pistons in positive displacement pump. Pump in turn delivers hydraulic fluid at different pressure level to a load.

Self-oscillations in an Alpha Stirling Engine: a bifurcation analysis
We study a thermo-mechanical system comprised of an alpha Stirling engine and a flywheel from the perspective of dynamical systems theory. Thermodynamics establish a static relation between the flywheel's angle and the forces exerted by the two power ...

A Soft Robotic Model for Simulating Heart Valve Disease and Cardiac Interventions
This paper introduces a fully synthetic fabrication methodology for a soft robotic, in‐vitro model of the left‐heart, complete with a functioning mitral valve apparatus. With a view towards patient‐specific modeling, we demonstrate physiological flow and pressure waveforms, tunable mitral valve function with clinical imaging compatibility, and its use ...

Mild Focal Cooling Decouples Dendrites to Reconfigure Cortical Output
Mild cooling of the cortical surface selectively modulates apical dendritic excitability, plasticity, and somato‐dendritic coupling, while uncoupling these effects from basal dendrites, and reshapes apical‐driven responses in barrel cortex during whisker touch.

Localized Faraday patterns under heterogeneous parametric excitation
Faraday waves are a classic example of a system in which an extended pattern emerges under spatially uniform forcing. Motivated by systems in which uniform excitation is not plausible, we study both experimentally and theoretically the effect of ...

An Implanted Tooth That Can Feel
To endow the implanted tooth with masticatory perception, herein we demonstrate that a 3D‐printed piezoelectric‐core/robust‐sheath implanted tooth can rebuild the sensing feedback, serving as “mechanoreceptors” in converting the mechanical chewing force to electrical signals, and up to brain through surrounding alveolar nerve system.

Reduction of the sound power radiated by a two pistons system located near the three-wall corner
The main aim of this study is to calculate magnitudes describing the sound radiation by a system containing two vibrating circular pistons located in tree-wall corner.
