Multiple Scattering: Dispersion, Temperature Dependence, and Annular Pistons

open access: yes, 2010
We review various applications of the multiple scattering approach to the calculation of Casimir forces between separate bodies, including dispersion, wedge geometries, annular pistons, and temperature dependence. Exact results are obtained in many cases.

Hybrid Magnetoactive Soft Elastomers: Material Development Toward Application in Diaphragm Pumps

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Hybrid magnetoactive soft elastomeric membranes are developed by combining two different types of magnetic particles. The membranes exhibit distinct mechanical, magnetic and thermal properties owing to the unique characteristics of the two magnetic particles.

Hamiltonian model of heat conductivity and Fourier law

open access: yes, 2004
We investigate the stationary nonequilibrium states of a quasi one-dimensional system of heavy particles whose interaction is mediated by purely elastic collisions with light particles, in contact at the boundary with two heat baths with fixed ...

Monitoring Three-Dimensional Packings in Microgravity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
We present results from experiments with granular packings in three dimensions in microgravity as realized on parabolic flights. Two different techniques are employed to monitor the inside of the packings during compaction: (1) X-ray radiography is used ...

3D Printing of Highly Dense and Translucent Zirconia Parts for Dental Applications: Effect of Filament Overlapping

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
This study formulated a 5Y‐PSZ zirconia paste for extrusion‐based additive manufacturing via direct ink writing, producing dense ceramic structures for dental applications. A colloidal approach with 47 vol% nanometric powder and tailored additives optimized rheology and printability.

Elastomers Combining Damping Efficiency With Rapid Recovery

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Double network granular elastomers (DNGEs) combine high energy dissipation under both cyclic loading and high impact with rapid shape recovery. 3D printing enables the production of complex, customizable structures with tailored performance. Recyclable DNGEs retain their properties over multiple recycling cycles.

Coal-rock interface detector [PDF]

open access: yes, 1979
A coal-rock interface detector is presented which employs a radioactive source and radiation sensor. The source and sensor are separately and independently suspended and positioned against a mine surface of hydraulic pistons, which are biased from an air

Characterization of a Human Powered Nebulizer Compressor for Resource Poor Settings [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Background Respiratory disease accounts for three of the ten leading causes of death worldwide. Many of these diseases can be treated and diagnosed using a nebulizer. Nebulizers can also be used to safely and efficiently deliver vaccines.

Overcoming Printing and Interfacial Challenges in Liquid Metal Direct Writing for Integrated Stretchable Electronics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Liquid metal direct writing is advanced from a technological and fundamental point. Utilizing a kinematic bed, printing on large surfaces with irregularities is enabled. Furthermore, a pressure‐driven flow during printing is discovered that affects the thickness of traces.
