Intonation processing in congenital amusia: discrimination, identification and imitation

open access: yes, 2010
This study investigated whether congenital amusia, a neuro-developmental disorder of musical perception, also has implications for speech intonation processing.

Phonologic representation and speech perception: The role of pause

open access: yesDiacrítica, 2019
We investigate the perception of pauses at intonational phrase (IP) boundaries in Brazilian Portuguese (BP) and addresses the discussion about the relation between speech production and perception.

Chip‐Integrated Metasurface‐GaAsSb Nanowire Array Photodetectors for Single‐Pixel Polarimetric Imaging

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
A 2×2 multiplexed GaAsSb nanowire photodetector array integrated with L‐shaped metasurfaces is developed for miniaturized infrared polarimetry. Leveraging non‐radiating anapole states that facilitate near‐field enhancement, the device demonstrates strong polarization selectivity at 835 nm.

A case of auditory disturbance caused by lacosamide

open access: yesEpilepsy and Behavior Case Reports, 2019
We report a case of auditory disturbance in an adult female that developed after starting lacosamide treatment for epilepsy. While carbamazepine is known to change auditory pitch perception in some patients, that has not been previously reported as a ...

Pitch Perception With the Temporal Limits Encoder for Cochlear Implants

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Neural Systems and Rehabilitation Engineering, 2022
The temporal-limits-encoder (TLE) strategy has been proposed to enhance the representation of temporal fine structure (TFS) in cochlear implants (CIs), which is vital for many aspects of sound perception but is typically discarded by most modern CI ...

Micromachined Double‐Membrane Mechanically Tunable Metamaterial for Thermal Infrared Filtering

open access: yesAdvanced Photonics Research, Volume 6, Issue 5, May 2025.
Herein, a mechanically tunable double‐layer plasmonic metamaterial leveraging the extraordinary optical transmission effect observed in subwavelength arrays of openings within thin metal layers is presented. The concept is experimentally validated by integrating the proposed metamaterial structure into an electrostatic parallel‐plate actuator to create

Periodicity and frequency coding in human auditory cortex

open access: yes, 2006
Understanding the neural coding of pitch and frequency is fundamental to the understanding of speech comprehension, music perception and the segregation of concurrent sound sources. Neuroimaging has made important contributions to defining the pattern of

A house of cards: bias in perception of body size mediates the relationship between voice pitch and perceptions of dominance [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Theories of the evolution of low voice pitch in men are based on the idea that voice pitch is an honest indicator of physical dominance, but relationships among pitch, physical body size and strength among same-sex adults' voices are weak and unstable ...
