Smoothing-inspired lack-of-fit tests based on ranks
A rank-based test of the null hypothesis that a regressor has no effect on a response variable is proposed and analyzed. This test is identical in structure to the order selection test but with the raw data replaced by ranks. The test is nonparametric in

A Generalization of the Sukhatme's Test for Two-Sample Scale Problem
In this paper, we present nonparametric tests for the two-sample scale problem. The proposed tests include as special case the B.V. Sukhatme, Ann. Math. Stat. 28 (1957), 188–194, and J.V. Deshpande, K. Kusum, Aust. J. Stat. 26 (1984), 16–24 tests.

Vanishing shortcoming and asymptotic relative efficiency [PDF]
The shortcoming of a test is the difference between the maximal attainable power and the power of the test under consideration. Vanishing shortcoming, when the number of observations tends to infinity, is therefore an optimality property of a test. Other

Moderate deviations of minimum contrast estimators under contamination [PDF]
Since statistical models are simplifications of reality, it is important in estimation theory to study the behavior of estimators also under distributions (slightly) different from the proposed model.

Minimax Estimation of Nonregular Parameters and Discontinuity in Minimax Risk
When a parameter of interest is nondifferentiable in the probability, the existing theory of semiparametric efficient estimation is not applicable, as it does not have an influence function.

A nonparametric Bayesian approach to the rare type match problem
The "rare type match problem" is the situation in which the suspect's DNA profile, matching the DNA profile of the crime stain, is not in the database of reference.

Beech wood treated with polyglycerol succinate: a new effective method for its protection and stabilization [PDF]
This paper deals with an original and non-biocidal chemical treatment consisting of a vacuum/pressure impregnation step of beech wood with a water-borne mixture made from heat-activated condensation of succinic anhydride (SA) and glycerol (G).

Some Properties of the Asymptotic Relative Pitman Efficiency
A general approach to Pitman efficiency as a limit of the ratio of sample sizes is presented. The results can be used especially to derive the Pitman efficiency of tests based on asymptotically $\chi^2$-distributed statistics with different degrees of freedom.

A Generalized Pitman Efficiency for Nonparametric Tests
Asymptotic expressions up to terms of order $n^{-2}$ are given for the efficiency of the Wilcoxon two-sample test relative to the standard-normal test and $t$-test for nearby alternatives. The first term is the well-known Pitman efficiency; the remaining terms are corrections for finite sample sizes.

Pulsation is believed to be the leading cause of dusty mass loss from Asymptotic Giant Branch (AGB) stars. We present a temporal study of T Cep, a long-period Mira variable, using seven ISO SWS spectra, covering a 16-month period over a single pulsation ...
