Purification and cultivation of human pituitary growth hormone secreting cells [PDF]

open access: yes
A multiphase study was conducted to examine the properties of growth hormone cells. Topics investigated included: (1) to determine if growth hormone (GH) cells contained within the rat pituitary gland can be separated from the other hormone producing ...

Quantification of steroid hormones in free‐ranging Apennine wolf Canis lupus italicus hair samples collected post‐mortem

open access: yesWildlife Biology, EarlyView.
After decades of dramatic reductions in their populations, Italian wolves have begun recolonizing parts of their historic range. This growth in populations can lead to potential conflicts with human activities, which remain the main cause of wolf mortality.

Harbingers of change: Towards a mechanistic understanding of anticipatory plasticity in animal systems

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, EarlyView.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Phenotypic plasticity is a strategy by which animals alter behaviour, morphology and/or physiology in response to cues of current conditions to cope with environmental heterogeneity.

Considerations of Fertility in Elite Sportswomen: A Narrative Review

open access: yesBJOG: An International Journal of Obstetrics &Gynaecology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Increasingly more women are participating in professional and recreational sports. Whilst vigorous intensity physical activity is considered beneficial, evidence demonstrates higher rates of menstrual disturbance in elite athletes. There is less clear evidence on the impact of elite‐level exercise on fertility outcomes.

Advent of NK3R Antagonists for the Treatment of Menopausal Hot Flushes: A Narrative Review

open access: yesBJOG: An International Journal of Obstetrics &Gynaecology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The menopause transition is marked by symptoms predominantly attributed to declining oestrogen levels. Approximately 80% of women experience associated symptoms, and 25% experience severe symptoms. The commonest are vasomotor symptoms (VMS), collectively referring to hot flushes and/or night sweats.

Can Fecal T3 Metabolite Level Fluctuations in European Roe Deer (Capreolus capreolus) Give Insights on Body Condition and Thermal Stress?

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
European roe deer fecal samples were assayed to investigate the potential fluctuations of fecal thyroid hormone metabolites (FTMs) in response to environmental (e.g., the temperature, local densities) and individual (e.g., sex, age, body, and nutritional conditions) variables.

Local Growth Hormone Facilitates Aging of the Colon Epithelial Microenvironment

open access: yesAging Cell, EarlyView.
Local growth hormone (GH) is expressed and secreted by senescent cells in the aging human colon. GH triggers epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition and activates colon cell motility by regulating extracellular matrix proteins, inducing cytoskeleton rearrangement and altering cell motility protein phosphorylation.

Associations of plasma sex‐related hormone and protein levels and alcohol dependence

open access: yesAddiction, EarlyView.
Abstract Background and Aims Sex‐related hormones and proteins may underlie sex differences in alcohol use disorder characteristics and consequences. Previous reports suggest steroid sex hormones may influence alcohol consumption behaviors while proteins that regulate their circulation levels are rarely investigated.
