Deranged anterior pituitary responsiveness to hypothalamic hormones in depressed patients.
Archives of General Psychiatry, 1978Abnormal anterior pituitary (AP) responsiveness to acute administration of thyrotropin-releasing hormone (TRH) and luteinizing hormone-follicle stimulating hormone-releasing hormone (LH-RH) was investigated in 14 patients (two men and 12 women) suffering

The role of hormones in adipose glycogen synthesis in the rat; anterior pituitary growth hormone.
Endocrinology, 1950Anterior pituitary growth hormone exerts an influence on fat and carbohydrate metabolism in addition to its well known effect of promoting nitrogen storage and growth (Li and Evans, 1948).

STUDIES ON THE THYROTROPIC HORMONE OF THE ANTERIOR PITUITARY
Journal of the American Medical Association, 1935A study of the physiologic activity of the thyrotropic hormone of the anterior pituitary has shown that the stimulating effect of the hormone on the thyroid gland is only temporary and that retrogressive changes actually take place in spite of continued injections of the hormone.

ANTERIOR PITUITARY HORMONE IN THE BLOOD OF WOMEN*
Endocrinology, 1931The fundamental studies of Evans, Long, Smith, Engle, Zondek, and Aschheim demonstrating the ovary-stimulating properties of substances derived from the anterior lobe of the hypophysis have not only advanced our knowledge of the physiology of the female pelvic organs but have furnished the basis :for an important laboratory test. This was first used by

Acetylcholine and Anterior Pituitary Hormone Secretion
1979This chapter deals with the effects of acetylcholine (ACh) on anterior pituitary hormone secretion. The literature is reviewed. In general, previous investigations of the effects of cholinergic stimuli indicate stimulation of the hypothalamo-hypophyseal-adrenal and gonadal axes. Cholinergic stimulation seems to inhibit prolaction secretion.
