Orofacial pain disorder or trigeminal autonomic cephalalgia? Insights into pathophysiology and implications in medicine and dentistry

open access: yesHeadache: The Journal of Head and Face Pain, EarlyView.
There are some headache disorders known as trigeminal autonomic cephalalgias (TACs). When these “headaches” are localized in the mid‐face region, they are known as “trigeminal autonomic orofacial pains” (TAOPs), and they can mimic other types of face pains including dental pain, which puts the patient at risk of receiving treatments that are incorrect.

Activation of the Urokinase Plasminogen Activator/Urokinase Plasminogen Activator Receptor System in Periodontitis: A Case–Control Study

open access: yesInternational Journal of Dental Hygiene, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction The plasminogen activating (PA) system has a multitude of functions such as wound healing, proteolytic activity, collagen degradation and cell growth, and the role of the urokinase plasminogen activator/urokinase plasminogen activator receptor (uPA/uPAR) system has been studied in many disease states.

Context‐Dependent Regulation of Epithelial Cell Behaviour by Palatal Connective Tissue Graft‐Derived Fibroblasts via EGF and HB‐EGF Signalling

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Periodontology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Aim To investigate how human palatal fibroblasts (HPFs) from anterior (A) or posterior (P) subepithelial connective tissue grafts (CTGs) regulate oral epithelial cell behaviour, focusing on epidermal growth factor (EGF) and heparin‐binding EGF‐like growth factor (HB‐EGF).

Modulation of sebocyte function in acne: A pathway‐inclusive review

open access: yesJournal of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology, EarlyView.
Acne is multifactorial, with the sebocyte acting as a central immunometabolic hub linking lipogenic, inflammatory, hormonal and barrier pathways. Mapping established and investigational therapies onto this sebocyte‐centred model offers a mechanism‐based framework that complements existing treatment paradigms and may guide more targeted, antibiotic ...
