XRF induced by PIXE: Comparison with PIXE

Journal of Radioanalytical and Nuclear Chemistry Letters, 1987
Two different modes of sample excitation have been used for elemental analysis of thin standard reference materials and of chemical standards with known composition. PIXE /2.5 MeV protons/ and XRF induced by PIXE, will be called XRF-PIXE /2.5 MeV protons on Mo primary target/. The same samples were alternatively exposed to protons and X-ray beams.

μ-PIXE and X-PIXE for radiological forensics

SPIE Proceedings, 2005
Sandia is evaluating methods for identifying and quantifying trace signatures in field collection samples to support national deterrence policies. The first step in this process is to identify which combination of major, minor, and trace elements in a recovered collection sample provides the most reliable forensic information, and then to be able to ...

PIXE Simulation With Geant4

IEEE Transactions on Nuclear Science, 2009
Particle induced X-ray emission (PIXE) is an important physical effect that is not yet adequately modelled in Geant4. This paper provides a critical analysis of the problem domain associated with PIXE simulation; it evaluates the conceptual approach, design and implementations of PIXE modelling so far available in Geant4, and describes a set of ...

PIX, the latest NeWS

Digest of Papers. COMPCON Spring 89. Thirty-Fourth IEEE Computer Society International Conference: Intellectual Leverage, 2003
The NeWS window server from Sun Microsystems is the addition of quasiparallelism to PostScript. NeWS uses this parallelism to deal with the inherent concurrency of human/computer interactions. NeWS provides multiple, lightweight processes to deal with this parallelism; as a result, user interfaces are demonstrably easier to implement using NeWS than ...

Apportionment of non-PIXE species by means of PIXE analysis

Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section B: Beam Interactions with Materials and Atoms, 1993
Abstract Source apportionment for air pollution by means of receptor models are often used in connection with PIXE analysis. The origin of “non-PIXE” species is assessed mainly by using PIXE based models. Three case studies are discussed. 1) Soot is often used as general indicator for anthropogenic air pollution. The trend in the source contributions

External PIXE and mu-PIXE measurements of elemental concentrations in volcanic rocks

Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section B: Beam Interactions with Materials and Atoms, 1992
Abstract PIXE measurements have been performed on volcanic rocks, using external 3 MeV proton beams of 50 to 200 μm diameter, at the KN3000 Van de Graaff accelerator of the Physics Department of the Florence University. Two or more Si(Li) detectors are used during each run and the elemental composition is computed from the peak areas obtained in the ...

PIXE analysis of biomedical samples

Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section B: Beam Interactions with Materials and Atoms, 1987
Abstract A procedure for preparation and analysis of small biological samples is described. All steps of the procedure are checked in order to ensure representative and contamination-free samples. To demonstrate the method, analysis of tissue from selenium treated rats is presented.

Applications of the remote operation of PIXE and Micro-PIXE measurements

2008
Fast internet connections that are available today worldwide are opening new possibilities in the research and education using accelerator based analytical techniques. Our newly developed accelerator computer control and recent improvements in sample positioning and data acquisition systems enabled a long distance access to experiments performed at ...
