A non-linear dynamic model for planetary gear sets

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part K: Journal of Multi-body Dynamics, 2007
A discrete non-linear torsional vibration model of a single-stage planetary set is proposed in the current study. The model includes all possible power flow configurations, any number of planets in any spacing arrangement and any planet mesh phasing configurations. It also includes time variation of gear mesh stiffnesses as well as clearance (backlash)

An Experimental Investigation of the Dynamic Behavior of Planetary Gear Set

2013
In this paper an experimental planetary gear set rig is developed for dynamic analysis purposes. This bench is composed by two identical planetary gears connected by a common shaft. Two tri axial accelerometers are mounted in both rings. Series of mmeasurements were achieved to study the influence of speeds as well as loads on the dynamic behaviour of ...

Investigating Vibration Properties of a Planetary Gear Set with a Cracked Tooth in a Planet Gear

Annual Conference of the PHM Society, 2014
Comparing with fixed shaft gearbox, vibration properties of planetary gearbox are much more complicated. In a planetary gearbox, there are multiple vibration sources as several pairs of sun-planet gears and several pairs of ring- planet gears mesh simultaneously. In addition, the signal transmission path changes due to the rotation

Fault features analysis of a compound planetary gear set with damaged planet gears

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part C: Journal of Mechanical Engineering Science, 2017
The fault properties of compound planetary gear set are much more complicated than the simple planetary gear set. A damaged planet will induce two periodic transient impulses in the raw signals and generates modulation sidebands around the mesh harmonics.

Dynamic simulation of a planetary gear set and estimation of fault growth on the sun gear

2013 International Conference on Quality, Reliability, Risk, Maintenance, and Safety Engineering (QR2MSE), 2013
Planetary gears are widely used in aeronautic and industrial applications because of the properties of compactness and high torque-to-weight ratios. Due to high service load, harsh operating conditions or simply fatigue, faults may develop in gears.

Effect of Internal Gear Flexibility on the Quasi-Static Behavior of a Planetary Gear Set

Journal of Mechanical Design, 2000
Effect of flexibility of an internal gear on the quasi-static behavior of a planetary gear set is investigated. A state-of-the-art finite elements/semi-analytical nonlinear contact mechanics formulation is employed to model a typical automotive automatic transmission planetary unit.

Optimisation of Spur Gears in a Planetary Hub Reduction Set

SAE Technical Paper Series, 1985
<div class="htmlview paragraph">This paper describes a computer program for optimising the bending and contact strength of the spur gears in a planetary hub reduction set. Classical optimisation techniques are not employed because of the complexity of the problem and the number and variety of constraints encountered.
