In Vivo Scaling and Root Planing Forces in Molars

Journal of Periodontology, 1993
The purpose of the present study was to assess in vivo scaling and root planing forces in molars of Periodontitis patients. Ten dentists and 10 dental hygienists scaled and root planed the mesial and distal aspect of one first molar, using Gracey curets 11/ 12 and 13/14.

Perception and Reproduction of Force Direction in the Horizontal Plane

Journal of Neurophysiology, 2003
In this study, we evaluated the capacity of human beings to perceive and reproduce forces applied to the hand. We tested for perceptive distortions and/or privileged directions in the performance of these two tasks. Subjects resisted a reference force applied by a joystick in a given direction, with instructions to keep the hand at a constant position.

Frictional forces on an inclined plane

American Journal of Physics, 1992
A box of mass m1 rests on a rough plane elevated through an angle φ. The box is connected to a counterweight of mass m2 by an inextensible rope which passes over an ideal pulley at the higher end of the plane. The box may stick only if μs2≥M2−1, where μs is the coefficient of friction and M≡m2/m1.

Existence of a Solution for a Nonlinearly Elastic Plane Membrane Subject to Plane Forces

Journal of Elasticity, 1998
The two-dimensional nonlinear ‘membrane’ equations for a plate made of a Saint Venant–Kirchhoff material have been justified by D. Fox, A. Raoult and J.C. Simo (1993) by means of the method of formal asymptotic expansions applied to the three-dimensional equations of nonlinear elasticity. This model, which retains the material-frame indifference of the

Punching of flat slabs with in-plane forces

Engineering Structures, 2011
Abstract The experimental analysis of reduced scale flat slab models under punching, subject to in-plane forces is described and the results are compared with the Eurocode 2 (2004) [1] provisions, the FIP Recommendations for the Design of Post-tensioned Slabs and Foundation Rafts (1998) [2] and ACI 318-08 (2008) [3] , to evaluate their validity.

Force field for in-plane vibrations of pyrazine

Spectrochimica Acta Part A: Molecular Spectroscopy, 1986
Abstract A general quadratic force field has been calculated using the MINDO/3 approximation for the in-plane vibrations of pyrazine. Analytical first derivatives and numerical second derivatives of the energy have been computed. The force constants have been refined to fit experimental frequencies of pyrazine-h4, pyrazine-d4 and cis-pyrazine-d2.

Responses of an elastic disc to in-plane forces

Journal of Sound and Vibration, 1987
The transfer inertance between the rim and the centre, and the point inertance at the centre of an elastic disc are derived. The characteristics of the inertances are discussed. The predicted resonances agree with experimental results.

The in-plane force field of nitryl fluoride

Molecular Physics, 1976
The in-plane harmonic and some cubic force constants of nitryl fluoride (NO2F) have been determined from ab initio Hartree-Fock calculations, using 7s3p and 5s2p gaussian basis sets. The theoretical values are used to resolve the ambiguity of the experimental force constants.

Hydrostatic Forces on Submerged Plane Surfaces

2020
A fluid at rest in contact with a surface exerts only a normal force per unit area, called pressure. The pressure is isotropic (at a given point it is the same regardless of the orientation of the infinitesimal surface containing the point and on which it is evaluated) and once the pressure field has been determined, it is possible to calculate the ...

Force field for in-plane vibrations of isophthalonitrile

Monatshefte fr Chemie Chemical Monthly, 1989
The general quadratic force field for the in-plane vibrations of isophthalonitrile was calculated by the semi-empirical MINDO/3 method. This force field was refined to the frequencies observed experimentally for isophthalonitrile and isotopic shifts of isophthalonitrile-15N2.
