Mixotrophy in the Marine Plankton
Mixotrophs are important components of the bacterioplankton, phytoplankton, microzooplankton, and (sometimes) zooplankton in coastal and oceanic waters. Bacterivory among the phytoplankton may be important for alleviating inorganic nutrient stress and may increase primary production in oligotrophic waters.

Cold plasma devices (J‐Plasma, Piezo Brush PZ3, Plasma Care) generate unique reactive species that penetrate tissues differently, enabling biofilm eradication while preserving tissue health. This study uncovers plasma‐device interactions with biofilms and surfaces, highlighting tailored applications for precision medicine and infection control ...

Predicting plankton net community production in the Atlantic Ocean [PDF]
We present, test and implement two contrasting models to predict euphotic zone net community production (NCP), which are based on 14C primary production (PO14CP) to NCP relationships over two latitudinal (ca.

Are there Invasive Planktonic Microbes?
The translocation of species by human activities is a problem that increases with the globalization. However, the examples of non-indigenous or exotic planktonic microbes can be questioned as they predominantly have cosmopolitan distributions and natural mechanisms for wide dispersion.

Engineered Tissue Models to Decode Host–Microbiota Interactions
Host–Microbiota interactions in the human body. Created in BioRender. Ghezzi, C. (2025) https://BioRender.com/ihivskg. Abstract A mutualistic co‐evolution exists between the host and its associated microbiota in the human body. Bacteria establish ecological niches in various tissues of the body, locally influencing their physiology and functions, but ...

[Corrigendum to] Effects of small-scale turbulence on lower trophic levels under different nutrient conditions [vol 32, pg 197, 2010] [PDF]
Small-scale turbulence affects the pelagic food web and energy flow in marine systems and the impact is related to nutrient conditions and the assemblage of organisms present.

This study develops a photosynthetic bioelectrochemical nitrogen fixation system for simultaneous nitrogen fixation and current generation using Rhodopseudomonas palustris. Notably, extracellular electron transfer (EET) serves as a redox balancing strategy, suppressing nitrogen fixation by competing with nitrogenase for electrons.
