Evadne anonyx G. O. Sars, 1897 - the first record of this Ponto-Caspian cladoceran in the Gulf of Gdańsk (Baltic Sea)

open access: yesOceanologia, 2014
Evadne anonyx, a new invasive Ponto-Caspian species, was detected for the first time in the Gulf of Gdańsk in the summer of 2006. Seven years probably elapsed from the first record of E.

Non‐Amphiphilic Antimicrobial Polymers

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie International Edition, EarlyView.
Completely non‐amphiphilic antimicrobial polymers (APs) that possess significant bioactivity and excellent selectivity are presented. The importance of hydrogen‐bonding interactions is highlighted by segregation of APs on bacterial membrane models and bacteria, a behavior absent in amphiphilic polymers.

Predicting plankton net community production in the Atlantic Ocean [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
We present, test and implement two contrasting models to predict euphotic zone net community production (NCP), which are based on 14C primary production (PO14CP) to NCP relationships over two latitudinal (ca.

Development, Evaluation, and Characterization of a Novel Mucoadhesive Film Containing Pterodon pubescens Benth Ethanolic Extract for Dental Use

open access: yesJournal of Applied Polymer Science, EarlyView.
Pterodon pubescens Mucoadhesive Film for dental use. ABSTRACT Periodontal diseases involve infectious and inflammatory processes that affect oral tissues. Extracts from Pterodon pubescens Benth (sucupira) have demonstrated antinociceptive, anti‐inflammatory, anti‐edematogenic, and antiplatelet effects, highlighting their therapeutic potential for ...

Intrinsic speckle noise in in-line particle holography due to poly-disperse and continuous particle sizes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
In-line particle holography is subject to image deterioration due to intrinsic speckle noise. The resulting reduction in the signal to noise ratio (SNR) of the replayed image can become critical for applications such as holographic particle velocimetry ...

Design and Synthesis of Triazole‐Based p‐tert‐Butylcalix[4]Arene Conjugates and Evaluation of Their Antimicrobial, Antibiofilm, and Anti‐Quorum‐Sensing Activities

open access: yesBiotechnology and Applied Biochemistry, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Macrocyclic calix[n]arenes have many applications, with diverse structures that can easily be functionalized either on upper or lower rims, mostly to impart solubility and improve biological activities. In this study, triazole‐based p‐tert‐butylcalix[4]arene conjugates (AT10a and AT10b) and their p‐tert‐butylphenol analogs (AT10b and AT11b ...

Biological hot spots and the accumulation of marine dissolved organic matter in a highly productive ocean margin [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Concentrations of dissolved organic carbon (DOC) and major biochemicals (amino acids and carbohydrates) were measured during five cruises (2009–2010) to the Louisiana margin in the northern Gulf of Mexico.
