Physiological responses of a halophytic shrub to salt stress by Na2SO4 and NaCl: oxidative damage and the role of polyphenols in antioxidant protection [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Salt stress conditions lead to increased production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in plant cells. Halophytes have the ability to reduce these toxic ROS by means of a powerful antioxidant system that includes enzymatic and non-enzymatic components.

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Les acides gras des organes oppositifoliés de Vitis vinifera L. var. ugni blanc

open access: yesOENO One, 1975
On sait que les organes oppositifoliés de la Vigne, vrilles et inflorescences, sont assimilés à des rameaux modifiés. Diverses considérations, notamment l'étude des formes de transition entre ces organes, apportent des arguments en faveur de cette ...

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Identification of STN7-associated leaf senescence networks in thylakoid membranes of Arabidopsis

open access: yesiScience
Summary: Photosynthetic protein complexes in thylakoid membranes disassemble during leaf senescence, leading to a decline in photosynthetic efficiency. However, the mechanisms by which these protein complexes in chloroplast thylakoid membranes modulate ...

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Comparative analysis of the composition and carbohydrate content in the fruits of M. baccata (L.) Borkh. and its hybrid varieties with M. domestica Borkh.

open access: yesSiberian Journal of Life Sciences and Agriculture
Background. Research studies of the composition and content of carbohydrates in fruits of the hybrid varieties Malus baccata (L.) Borkh. and Malus domestica Borkh., which are widespread in cold climates, are important both from a fundamental point of ...

Plant Poisons: Their Occurrence, Biochemistry and Physiological Properties

open access: yesScience Progress, 2010
Plants produce poisons as a defence against predators. Many of these substances are biosynthesised from non-protein amino acids by biosynthetic pathways which have been deduced from the results of isotopic tracer analysis. These secondary metabolites have been used by humans over thousands of years, both as drugs and as agents to kill animals and ...
