THE importance of purified forms of alkaloids in inducing plant tumours is well known. Very little work has however been done on the use of plant extracts, containing alkaloids, in tumour production. Takenaka1 has summarized the meagre data available and noted the effects of two plant extracts on living plant tissue.

Hemagglutinins in Extracts of Israeli Plants

Summary The nature of the protein responsible for the hemagglutinating activity of Datura metel extract has been investigated. Ammonium sulfate precipitation and paper electrophoresis indicate that the active protein is a globulin similar to human γ-globulin.

Control of an Extractive Distillation Plant

A new separation scheme for extractive distillation which uses a vapor sidestream is presented together with an appropriate control system. Starting with a simplified model of the dynamic behaviour, the influence of the level control loops is investigated and a multivariable control system is developed using state space methods.
