Low-carbon Lithium Extraction Makes Deep Geothermal Plants Cost-competitive in Energy Systems [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
Lithium is a critical material for the energy transition, but conventional procurement methods have significant environmental impacts. In this study, we utilize regional energy system optimizations to investigate the techno-economic potential of the low-carbon alternative of direct lithium extraction in deep geothermal plants.

The thioredoxin‐like and one glutaredoxin domain are required to rescue the iron‐starvation phenotype of HeLa GLRX3 knock out cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Glutaredoxin (Grx) 3 proteins contain a thioredoxin domain and one to three class II Grx domains. These proteins play a crucial role in iron homeostasis in eukaryotic cells. In human Grx3, at least one of the two Grx domains, together with the thioredoxin domain, is essential for its function in iron metabolism.

In vitro and in vivo antifungal activity of plant extracts against common phytopathogenic fungi

open access: yesJournal of BioScience and Biotechnology, 2022
Natural crop protection products are gaining popularity due to consumer demands and long-term toxicity of chemical pesticides. Extracts of nine locally available plants species were screened for their fungicidal activity against four widespread fungal ...

Antifungal Activity in Extracts of Plants from Southwestern Oklahoma Against Aspergillus Flavus

open access: yesOklahoma Native Plant Record, 2015
The use of medicinal plants has been an integral part of human civilization since antiquity. Naturally occurring pesticidal compounds are synthesized by the plant defense system, which includes antimicrobial proteins and lower molecular weight natural ...

Screening of organically based fungicides for apple scab (Venturia inaequalis) control and a histopathological study of the mode of action of a resistance inducer. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
A range of possible substitutes for copper-based fungicides for control of apple scab (Venturia inaequalis) in organic growing were tested in laboratory and growth chamber experiments in the Danish project StopScab (2002-2004).

In vivo evidence for glycyl radical insertion into a catalytically inactive variant of pyruvate formate‐lyase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Dimeric pyruvate formate‐lyase cleaves pyruvate using a radical‐based mechanism. G734 serves as a radical storage location, and the radical is transferred to the catalytic C419 residue. Mutation of the C418‐C419 pair causes loss of enzyme activity, but does not impede radical introduction onto G734. Therefore, cis‐ but not trans‐radical transfer occurs

PlanT: Explainable Planning Transformers via Object-Level Representations [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
Planning an optimal route in a complex environment requires efficient reasoning about the surrounding scene. While human drivers prioritize important objects and ignore details not relevant to the decision, learning-based planners typically extract features from dense, high-dimensional grid representations containing all vehicle and road context ...
