Quantification of karrikins in smoke water using ultra-high performance liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry

open access: yesPlant Methods, 2019
Background Karrikins (KARs) are plant growth regulators that promote seed germination and the subsequent growth and development of seedlings of many plant species.

Diverse biological effects of glycosyltransferase genes from Tartary buckwheat [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Background: Tartary buckwheat (Fagopyrum tataricum) is an edible cereal crop whose sprouts have been marketed and commercialized for their higher levels of anti-oxidants, including rutin and anthocyanin. UDP-glucose flavonoid glycosyltransferases (UFGTs)

Integration of circadian and hypoxia signaling via non‐canonical heterodimerization

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
CLOCK, BMAL1, and HIFs are basic helix‐loop‐helix and Per‐Arnt‐Sim domain (bHLH‐PAS) proteins, which function as transcription factors. bHLH‐PAS proteins are designated in two classes. Many class I proteins are regulated by environmental signals via their PAS domains, but such signals have not been identified for all.

Nomenclatural adjustments in African plants 1

open access: yesBothalia: African Biodiversity & Conservation, 2014
Background: Ongoing systematic studies of the African flora necessitate periodic nomenclatural adjustments and corrections. Objectives: To effect requisite nomenclatural changes.

Function‐driven design of a surrogate interleukin‐2 receptor ligand

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Interleukin (IL)‐2 signaling can be achieved and precisely fine‐tuned through the affinity, distance, and orientation of the heterodimeric receptors with their ligands. We designed a biased IL‐2 surrogate ligand that selectively promotes effector T and natural killer cell activation and differentiation. Interleukin (IL) receptors play a pivotal role in

Aristea rufobracteata (Iridaceae: Aristeoideae), a new species from the southern Western Cape, South Africa

open access: yesBothalia: African Biodiversity & Conservation, 2015
Background: Collections of a tall species of Aristea from the southern coastal mountains of South Africa, with hairless, reddish brown bracts, have been variously identified as Aristea bakeri Klatt or Aristea capitata (L.) Ker Gawl., but do not accord ...

Growth Hormones and Development of Plants [PDF]

open access: yesNature, 1936
LATELY great attention has been paid to vernalization of various agricultural plants. Vernalization essentially consists in retarding the germination of seeds by means of insufficient soaking, low temperature, etc. When afterwards the seeds are subjected to normal conditions, further development of the plants proceeds at a greater rate, flowering and ...

The growth of plant embryos in vitro. Preliminary experiments on the role of accessory substances [PDF]

open access: yes, 1937
The aseptic culture of plant embryos isolated from the seed dates back to the work of Brown and Morris,(1) Hannig(2) and Dietrich.(3) More recent contributions to our knowledge concerning the culture in vitro of excised embryos have been made by Tukey,(4)

Time after time – circadian clocks through the lens of oscillator theory

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Oscillator theory bridges physics and circadian biology. Damped oscillators require external drivers, while limit cycles emerge from delayed feedback and nonlinearities. Coupling enables tissue‐level coherence, and entrainment aligns internal clocks with environmental cues.
