Production of novel oils in plants
Current Opinion in Biotechnology, 1999We have now isolated the great majority of genes encoding enzymes of storage oil biosynthesis in plants. In the past two years, particular progress has been made with acyltransferases, ketoacyl-acyl carrier protein synthetases and with desaturases and their relatives.

Environmental Pollution (1970), 1970
Abstract Oils vary in their toxicity according to the content of low-boiling compounds, unsaturated compounds, aromatics, and acids. The higher the concentration of these constituents, the more toxic the oil. After penetrating into a plant, the oil may travel in the intercellular spaces and possibly also in the vascular system.

Tweaking enzymes for exotic plant oils
Nature Plants, 2018Plants are amazing chemical factories. Within the plant kingdom, more than 450 distinct fatty acid structures have been described. Two new C24 dihydroxy fatty acids have now been discovered that are synthesized by an unprecedented biosynthetic route termed ‘discontinuous elongation’.

Essential plant oils and headache mechanisms
Phytomedicine, 1995The rationale for using essential oils to alleviate headache is based on several assumptions. Especially for peppermint oil certain analgesic mechanisms were recently described. Local application of peppermint oil generates a long-lasting cooling effect on the skin, caused by a steric alteration of the calcium channels of the cold-receptors. Further it
