Laser‐Induced Graphene from Waste Almond Shells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Almond shells, an abundant agricultural by‐product, are repurposed to create a fully bioderived almond shell/chitosan composite (ASC) degradable in soil. ASC is converted into laser‐induced graphene (LIG) by laser scribing and proposed as a substrate for transient electronics.

Plant-Polysaccharide-Degrading Enzymes from Basidiomycetes [PDF]

open access: yesMicrobiology and Molecular Biology Reviews, 2014
SUMMARY Basidiomycete fungi subsist on various types of plant material in diverse environments, from living and dead trees and forest litter to crops and grasses and to decaying plant matter in soils. Due to the variation in their natural carbon sources, basidiomycetes have highly varied plant-polysaccharide-degrading ...

From Food to Power: Hydrogel Thermoelectrics for Ingestible Electronics

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We introduce a fully edible thermoelectric–electrochromic platform that harvests heat from food and converts it into a visible color change. N‐type and p‐type hydrogel thermoelectric generators connected in series power anthocyanin‐based electrochromic displays, demonstrating the feasibility of safe, biodegradable, ingestible systems for on‐food ...

Electrostatically‐Stabilized PEG‐Free Lipid Nanoparticles for Systemic Nucleic Acid Delivery

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work describes non‐PEGylated layered lipid nanoparticles (nonPEG LLNPs), a gene delivery platform that improves upon standard PEGylated LNPs via electrostatic adsorption of charged polymers. nonPEG LLNPs maintain colloidal stability under biological stresses, enhance circulation time, and mitigate accelerated blood clearance and hepatic ...

Second-harmonic imaging of plant polysaccharides

open access: yesJournal of Biomedical Optics, 2005
The application of second-harmonic generation (SHG) microscopy to plant materials has been neglected hitherto even though it would seem to have promise for identification and characterization of biologically and commercially important plant polysaccharides.
