The surgical management of symptomatic peripheral nerve sheath tumors

open access: yes, 2010
To determine the clinical presentation and morbidity of the surgical management of peripheral nerve sheath tumors (PNSTs). We performed a retrospective chart review of surgically treated PNSTs at the University of Miami between 1991 and 2008.

Network divergence analysis identifies adaptive gene modules and two orthogonal vulnerability axes in pancreatic cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumors contain diverse cellular states whose behavior is shaped by context‐dependent gene coordination. By comparing gene–gene relationships across biological contexts, we identify adaptive transcriptional modules that reorganize into distinct vulnerability axes.

An investigation of the molecular biology and genetics of Witches' Broom disease of Protea cynaroides

open access: yes, 1987
Bibliography: leaves 102-117An investigation was undertaken into the biology and genetics of Witches' Broom disease on Protea cynaroides. The investigation was approached in two ways: firstly, from a physiological and pathological angle and secondly at ...

COMP–PMEPA1 axis promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition in breast cancer cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study reveals that cartilage oligomeric matrix protein (COMP) promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) in breast cancer. We identify PMEPA1 (protein TMEPAI) as a novel COMP‐binding partner that mediates EMT via binding to the TSP domains of COMP, establishing the COMP–PMEPA1 axis as a key EMT driver in breast cancer.

Pre‐analytical optimization of cell‐free DNA and extracellular vesicle‐derived DNA for mutation detection in liquid biopsies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pre‐analytical handling critically determines liquid biopsy performance. This study defines practical best‐practice conditions for cell‐free DNA (cfDNA) and extracellular vesicle–derived DNA (evDNA), showing how processing time, storage conditions, tube type, and plasma input volume affect DNA integrity and mutation detection.

Germ cell tumors in children

open access: yes
Pediatric germ cell tumors represent a rare but biologically diverse group of neoplasms arising from pluripotent primordial germ cells. The 2022 edition of the WHO Classification of Pediatric Tumors introduced the first organ independent classification ...

Sugar Partitioning between Ustilago maydis and Its Host Zea mays L during Infection

open access: yes, 2018
The basidiomycete Ustilago maydis causes smut disease in maize (Zea mays) by infecting all plant aerial tissues. The infection causes leaf chlorosis and stimulates the plant to produce nutrient-rich niches (i.e.

EDNRB‐dependent endothelin signaling reduces proliferation and promotes proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition in gliomas

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Glioma cells mainly express the endothelin receptor EDNRB, while EDNRA is restricted to a perivascular tumor subpopulation. Endothelin signaling reduces glioma cell proliferation while promoting migration and a proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition associated with poor prognosis. This pathway activates Ca2+, K+, ERK, and STAT3 signalings and is regulated

Plant tumors induced by A. tumefaciens: a genetic approach

open access: yes, 1975
It is shown that a large plasmid in A. tumefaciens cells, called the TI-plasmid, besides being essential for oncogenicity also determines: (1) the specificity and the activity of the enzyme-system for octopine or nopaline utilisation; (2) the synthesis ...

Engineered extracellular vesicles enriched with the miR‐214/199a cluster enhance the efficacy of chemotherapy in ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of the miR‐214/199a cluster is associated with recurrence in ovarian cancer. Engineered small extracellular vesicles (m214‐sEVs) elevate miR‐214‐3p/miR‐199a‐5p in tumor cells, suppress β‐catenin, TLR4, and YKT6 signaling, reprogram tumor‐derived sEV cargo, reduce chemoresistance and migration, and enhance carboplatin efficacy and survival in ...
