The ratio of serum aldosterone to plasma renin activity (PRA) has been proposed as sensitive screening method in the diagnosis of primary aldosteronism under random conditions. However, the method for determination of renin activity is hampered by the necessity of ice cooling during storage and transport.

In normotensive controls and patients with essential hypertension, plasma aldosterone concentration increased during a morning in the standing position. In 6 cases of hyperaldosteronism with bilateral hyperplasia or indeterminate pathology, plasma aldosterone concentration was above normal, increasing further after standing.

Breed differences in the plasma renin activity and plasma aldosterone concentration of dogs.
Journal of Veterinary Medicine Series A, 1995SummaryPlasma renin activity (PRA) and plasma aldosterone concentration (PAC) were studied in 90 clinically healthy dogs: 15 Beagles, 15 Cavalier King Charles spaniels (CKCS), 15 Medium Sized Poodles, 15 Labrador retrievers, 15 Irish wolfhounds and 15 Newfoundlands. All dogs were fed a low sodium diet for at least 3 days before blood sampling in a home

Plasma aldosterone concentration of cats
The Veterinary Journal, 1998Aldosterone concentrations in the plasma of specific-pathogen-free, domestic, short-hair cats given sodium replete diets were measured by a radio-immunoassay. Plasma samples assayed were taken from male and female cats of 8, 12, 17, 20, 26, 29, 40 and > 52 weeks of age, from adult non-pregnant queens, and from queens in the ninth weeks of pregnancy and

PLASMA ALDOSTERONE CONCENTRATION IN ANEPHRIC CHILDREN
Acta Endocrinologica, 1974ABSTRACT The effect of extractive haemodialysis and of postural changes on the plasma aldosterone concentration has been studied in 5 anephric children. The plasma aldosterone concentration tended to be lower after haemodialysis in spite of the extracellular volume depletion induced. No regular response occurred after orthostatism. There was no

Primary aldosteronism (PA) is the most frequent form of secondary hypertension. Hypertension is a risk factor for cognitive decline and dementia. White matter lesions (WMLs) are linked to vascular risk factors, which increase the risk of dementia. We aimed to analyze the association of PA-related parameters and WMLs in patients with PA.We conducted a ...

THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN SALIVARY ALDOSTERONE AND PLASMA FREE ALDOSTERONE CONCENTRATIONS
Clinical Endocrinology, 1986The proportion of aldosterone in plasma not bound to proteins (% plasma free aldosterone, %PFA) was measured using an equilibrium dialysis technique and was found to lie predominantly in the range 25–40% although extremes of 20% and 60% were encountered.

Canrenone was administered in doses of 2 x 82 mg and 2 x 164 mg per day over a period of 10 days to diabetic patients without cardiovascular, liver or kidney involvement. Aldosterone excretion and plasma aldosterone increased only slightly during both regimes.

Plasma aldosterone concentrations in neonatal spontaneously hypertensive rats
Life Sciences, 1982Abstract Plasma aldosterone concentrations were found to be higher in the newborn, presumably prehypertensive, spontaneously hypertensive rat at 5, 10 and 20 days of age compared to age-matched normotensive Wistar-Kyoto (WKY). In addition, plasma aldosterone concentrations were seen to rise in newborn WKY in contrast to findings in Wistar rats and ...

Effects of routine heparin therapy on plasma aldosterone concentration
Acta Endocrinologica, 1991Abstract. Changes in plasma aldosterone, plasma renin activity, plasma cortisol, serum sodium and potassium concentrations were studied in 9 patients with thromboembolic diseases treated with heparin. Heparin was administered at doses of 700-1000 units/h for 7-10 days. Plasma aldosterone decreased from 239±33 to 114±25 pmol/l during heparin therapy and
