Circadian Rhythm and Effect of Posture on Plasma Aldosterone Concentration in Primary Aldosteronism

The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism, 1976
The effect of circadian rhythm and alterations in posture on plasma aldosterone concentration was studied in 13 patients with primary aldosteronism (six adenoma, five idiopathic hyperplasia, two carcinoma) to define the regulatory mechanism in each of these pathologic subtypes.

Association Between Plasma Aldosterone Concentration and Intraglomerular Hemodynamics in Primary Aldosteronism

American Journal of Hypertension
Abstract BACKGROUND In primary aldosteronism (PA), aldosterone could affect glomerular hemodynamics by elevating renal vascular resistance and glomerular capillary pressure. However, the relationship between plasma aldosterone concentrations (PAC) and glomerular hemodynamics including efferent ...

Ratio of serum aldosterone to plasma renin concentration in essential hypertension and primary aldosteronism

Experimental and Clinical Endocrinology & Diabetes, 2002
The ratio of serum aldosterone to plasma renin activity (PRA) has been proposed as sensitive screening method in the diagnosis of primary aldosteronism under random conditions. However, the method for determination of renin activity is hampered by the necessity of ice cooling during storage and transport.

Anomalous Postural Response of Plasma Aldosterone Concentration In Patients With Aldosterone-Producing Adrenal Adenoma

The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism, 1973
In normotensive controls and patients with essential hypertension, plasma aldosterone concentration increased during a morning in the standing position. In 6 cases of hyperaldosteronism with bilateral hyperplasia or indeterminate pathology, plasma aldosterone concentration was above normal, increasing further after standing.

Primary Aldosteronism: Effects of Inhibition of ACTH and Potassium Administration on Plasma Aldosterone Concentration

Clinical and Experimental Hypertension. Part A: Theory and Practice, 1982
The relative roles of ACTH, angiotensin and potassium in influencing aldosterone secretion in primary aldosteronism were assessed by direct or indirect means. In untreated patients with primary aldosteronism caused either by adrenal adenoma or hyperplasia plasma aldosterone and cortisol concentrations fluctuated in unison and dexamethasone reduced both

Plasma Aldosterone Concentration in Normal Subjects from Infancy to Adulthood

The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism, 1974
ABSTRACT Plasma aldosterone concentration was measured in 135 infants and children ranging in age from 2 weeks to 16 yr, using a sensitive radioimmunoassay method. The mean concentration of aldosterone during the first year of life was found to be significantly higher than at any other age (p < 0.005).

Plasma aldosterone concentration in sodium deprived mice of two strain

Journal of Steroid Biochemistry, 1974
Abstract Plasma aldosterone concentrations were measured in male and female CBA/FaCam and Peru mice, fed a low sodium, high potassium diet. These concentrations were compared with previously reported normal diet concentrations. The experimental diet increased plasma aldosterone concentration in both strains and sexes but there were no significant ...

Influence of crying on plasma renin activity and aldosterone concentration

European Journal of Pediatrics, 1989
Infants and toddlers often start crying at venopuncture and the stress of crying has been known to increase the levels of plasma renin activity (PRA) and plasma aldosterone concentration (PAC), but no precise information is available. We measured the levels of PRA and PAC in blood samples taken from 30 infants and toddlers within 1 min after the onset ...

Chronobiological study of factors affecting plasma aldosterone concentration in cirrhosis

Gastroenterology, 1986
We studied the mechanisms leading to derangement of aldosterone secretion in cirrhosis. The circadian patterns of plasma renin activity (PRA), aldosterone, cortisol, sodium, and potassium were studied in 16 nonazotemic cirrhotics (group 1 without ascites, 7 cases; group 2 with ascites, 9 cases) and 7 healthy controls.

METOCLOPRAMIDE INCREASES PLASMA ALDOSTERGNE CONCENTRATION IN MAN

The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism, 1977
Plasma Aldosterone (PA) response to metoclopramide (10 mg i.v.) was studied in 11 normal, 2 hypophysectomized subjects and in one patient with bilateral adrenal hyperplasia. All the subjects were kept on a normal sodium and potassium intake. Four normal subjects were pretreated with 1 mg of dexamethasone in order to inhibit endogenous ACTH.
