Novel plasma biomarker surrogating cerebral amyloid deposition

open access: yesProceedings of the Japan Academy, Series B, 2014
Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most common and devastating dementia. Simple and practical biomarkers for AD are urgently required for accurate diagnosis and to facilitate the development of disease-modifying interventions. The subjects for the study were selected on the basis of PiB amyloid imaging by PET.

CSF and plasma biomarkers for DLB [PDF]

open access: yesAlzheimer's & Dementia, 2020
AbstractBackgroundCSF biomarkers of amyloid and tau provide components of the A/T/N classification for AD and hold clinical prognostic value. They can help to identify how AD co‐pathology contributes to DLB. Alpha‐synuclein (a‐Syn) aggregation is a key pathogenic process in DLB, proposed to follow a staging system for spread of pathology.

The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...

Large Differences in Small RNA Composition Between Human Biofluids. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Extracellular microRNAs (miRNAs) and other small RNAs are implicated in cellular communication and may be useful as disease biomarkers. We systematically compared small RNAs in 12 human biofluid types using RNA sequencing (RNA-seq).

Impact of a 6-wk olive oil supplementation in healthy adults on urinary proteomic biomarkers of coronary artery disease, chronic kidney disease, and diabetes (types 1 and 2): a randomized, parallel, controlled, double-blind study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Background: Olive oil (OO) consumption is associated with cardiovascular disease prevention because of both its oleic acid and phenolic contents. The capacity of OO phenolics to protect against low-density lipoprotein (LDL) oxidation is the basis for a ...

Plasma Biomarker Profile Alterations during Variable Blood Storage [PDF]

open access: yesClinical Chemistry, 2016
To the Editor: A major confounding factor in the discovery of disease-specific molecular signatures is the variability in handling clinical blood samples. Consequently, novel protein markers of diseases have failed the “iron test” of validation and implementation into clinical practice because, in addition to patient variability, a range of ...

Characterizing the salivary RNA landscape to identify potential diagnostic, prognostic, and follow‐up biomarkers for breast cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study explores salivary RNA for breast cancer (BC) diagnosis, prognosis, and follow‐up. High‐throughput RNA sequencing identified distinct salivary RNA signatures, including novel transcripts, that differentiate BC from healthy controls, characterize histological and molecular subtypes, and indicate lymph node involvement.

Cerebrospinal fluid and plasma biomarker trajectories with increasing amyloid deposition in Alzheimer's disease

open access: yesEMBO Molecular Medicine, 2019
Failures in Alzheimer's disease (AD) drug trials highlight the need to further explore disease mechanisms and alterations of biomarkers during the development of AD.

Levels of bioactive endogenous lipids and health-related quality of life in Chronic Idiopathic Axonal Polyneuropathy

open access: yesUpsala Journal of Medical Sciences, 2022
Background: Although neuropathic pain is a significant problem in polyneuropathy, the underlying molecular mechanisms are poorly understood. The endogenous bioactive lipids 2-arachidonoyl-glycerol (2-AG), oleoylethanolamide (OEA), palmitoylethanolamide ...
