Elucidating the Role of Surface Ligands on the Oxidative Etching of Au Bipyramids During Photothermia Using Liquid Cell Transmission Electron Microscopy

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Gold bipyramids can act as efficient plasmonic nanoheaters, but they often reshape during laser heating. This study shows that oxygen nanobubbles drive oxidative etching and that surface ligands control stability. CTAB‐ and citrate‐coated particles blunt and lose optical performance, whereas polystyrene sulfonate preserves shape and heating by ...

Measuring temperature effects on nano-bubble growth in tungsten with grazing incidence small angle X-ray scattering

open access: yesNuclear Materials and Energy, 2017
W samples were exposed to He plasma in the MAGPIE, NAGDIS-II and PISCES-A across a range of sample temperatures between 473–1123K. GISAXS was used to quantify the effect of plasma fluence and W surface temperature on He nano-bubble size distributions. In

Atomic Layer Deposition in Transistors and Monolithic 3D Integration

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Transistors are fundamental building blocks of modern electronics. This review summarizes recent progress in atomic layer deposition (ALD) for the synthesis of two‐dimensional (2D) metal oxides and transition‐metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs), with particular emphasis on their enabling role in monolithic three‐dimensional (M3D) integration for next ...

Feedback under the microscope: thermodynamic structure and AGN driven shocks in M87

open access: yes, 2010
(abridged) Using a deep Chandra exposure (574 ks), we present high-resolution thermodynamic maps created from the spectra of $\sim$16,000 independent regions, each with $\sim$1,000 net counts.

Fluorescent Nanosensor for Indole‐3‐Propionic Acid Detection in Gut Health Monitoring

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This work introduces a fluorescent nanosensor system with two optical modalities for detection of indole‐3‐propionic acid (IPA) gut metabolite: (1) blue‐emitting cationic conjugated polyelectrolyte (CP3) and (2) near‐infrared (NIR)‐emitting CP3‐wrapped single‐walled carbon nanotube (SWNT).

Plasma Dynamics Associated With Equatorial Ionospheric Irregularities

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2018
The Communication/Navigation Outage Forecasting System satellite was operational from 2008, a period of deep solar minimum, to 2015, a period of moderate solar conditions.

Time refraction in expanding plasma bubbles

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2009
We consider the elementary processes associated with time refraction in non-stationary plasmas. We describe the frequency shifts of longitudinal and transverse wave propagation in isotropic plasmas, and their corresponding energy variation, which is a direct consequence of non-stationarity.

The mirror mode: A "superconducting'' space plasma analogue

open access: yes, 2018
We examine the physics of the magnetic mirror mode in its final state of saturation, the thermodynamic equilibrium, to demonstrate that the mirror mode is the analogue of a superconducting effect in a classical anisotropic-pressure space plasma.

High‐Throughput Generation of Tumor Spheroids via Droplet Microfluidics for siRNA‐Loaded Nanomedicine Assessment

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A droplet microfluidic platform is employed to enable high‐throughput, uniform tumor spheroid generation for evaluating siRNA‐loaded nanomedicines at the protein level. As a proof of concept, breast (MCF‐7) and brain (U87 MG) cancer cell lines are investigated using this platform, revealing penetration profiles and therapeutic responses between the two
