Midlatitude postsunset plasma bubbles observed over Europe during intense storms in April 2000 and 2001 [PDF]

open access: yesSpace Weather, 2017
Plasma bubbles are prevalent features of the equatorial/low-latitude ionosphere which are seldom observed at middle and high latitudes. Understanding the influence of geomagnetic storms on plasma bubbles' migration to higher latitudes is an important ...

Vortex bubble formation in pair plasmas [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review E, 2013
It is shown that delocalized vortex solitons in relativistic pair plasmas with small temperature asymmetries can be unstable for intermediate intensities of the background electromagnetic field. Instability leads to the generation of ever-expanding cavitating bubbles in which the electromagnetic fields are zero.

Shrinking equatorial plasma bubbles [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Space Physics, 2016
AbstractThe formation of equatorial plasma bubbles (EPBs) associated with spread F irregularities are fairly common phenomenon in the postsunset equatorial ionosphere. These bubbles grow as a result of eastward polarization electric field resulting in upward E × B drift over the dip equator.

Numerical simulation of the equatorial plasma bubble: the effect of seeding by the vertical winds and random background noise perturbations

open access: yesFrontiers in Astronomy and Space Sciences, 2023
A wide variety of small-amplitude waves widely exist in the ionosphere and have significant effects on the evolution of equatorial plasma bubbles. In this paper, we simulated equatorial plasma bubbles (EPB) seeded by vertical neutral wind perturbations ...

Ionospheric Turbulence and the Equatorial Plasma Density Irregularities: Scaling Features and RODI

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2021
In the framework of space weather, the understanding of the physical mechanisms responsible for the generation of ionospheric irregularities is particularly relevant for their effects on global positioning and communication systems.

Geomagnetic conjugacy of plasma bubbles extending to mid-latitudes during a geomagnetic storm on March 1, 2013

open access: yesEarth, Planets and Space, 2022
This study, for the first time, reports the geomagnetically conjugate structure of a plasma bubble extending to the mid-latitudes and the asymmetrical structure of the decay of the plasma bubble during a geomagnetic storm.

Zonal velocity of the equatorial plasma bubbles over Kolhapur, India [PDF]

open access: yesAnnales Geophysicae, 2013
This paper presents the observations of zonal drift velocities of equatorial ionospheric plasma bubbles and their comparison with model values. These velocities are determined by nightglow OI 630.0 nm images.

Semimonthly oscillation observed in the start times of equatorial plasma bubbles [PDF]

open access: yesAnnales Geophysicae, 2020
Using airglow data from an all-sky imager deployed at São João do Cariri (7.4∘ S, 36.5∘ W), the start times of equatorial plasma bubbles was studied in order to investigate the day-to-day variability of this phenomenon.

Severe L-band scintillation over low-to-mid latitudes caused by an extreme equatorial plasma bubble: joint observations from ground-based monitors and GOLD

open access: yesEarth, Planets and Space, 2023
The occurrence of plasma irregularities and ionospheric scintillation over the Caribbean region have been reported in previous studies, but a better understanding of the source and conditions leading to these events is still needed.

The Quest for the Most Spherical Bubble [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
We describe a recently realized experiment producing the most spherical cavitation bubbles today. The bubbles grow inside a liquid from a point-plasma generated by a nanosecond laser pulse. Unlike in previous studies, the laser is focussed by a parabolic
