Plasma electrolytic oxidation of hafnium

International Journal of Refractory Metals and Hard Materials, 2017
Abstract This paper presents the results of the investigation of plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) of hafnium. Atoms ionized during the PEO micro-discharging were identified using optical emission spectroscopy. The spectral line shape analysis of the hydrogen Balmer line H β indicated the presence of two types of micro-discharges characterized by ...

Porosity in plasma electrolytic oxide coatings

Acta Materialia, 2006
Abstract Plasma electrolytic oxide coatings are generally assumed to be almost fully dense. However, evidence is presented here for the presence of sub-micrometre, surface-connected porosity in such coatings, on aluminium alloys, at levels of the order of 20%.

Nanoparticle incorporation in plasma-electrolytic oxidation

Transactions of the IMF, 2016
One remaining problem of thicker PEO based topcoats on light metal substrates is the enhanced porosity with increasing layer thickness. While modern deposition techniques such as pulsed anodisation counteract this phenomenon, a simple current signal based approach cannot completely eliminate this problem.

Niobium treated by Plasma Electrolytic Oxidation with calcium and phosphorus electrolytes

Journal of the Mechanical Behavior of Biomedical Materials, 2018
Niobium plates were electrochemically treated by Plasma Electrolytic Oxidation (PEO) with electrolytes containing phosphorous and/or calcium. Three different electrolyte and experimental parameters were used forming three different surfaces. Film morphology, thickness, and chemical composition were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and ...

Plasma electrolytic oxide coatings on silumin for oxidation CO

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2017
Some catalysts of CO oxidation on silumin alloy AK12M2, used for the manufacture of pistons for Russian cars were investigated. The catalysts were prepared by the method of plasma electrolytic oxidation of silumin in electrolytes of various compositions with further activation by the salts Ce, Cu, Co, Ni, Mn and Al. The catalytic tests were carried out

Anode current effects in plasma electrolytic oxidation

Surface and Coatings Technology, 2007
During plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) processes, the factors, such as the shape of the specimen, the location of the cathode electrode, and others have a critical influence on the anode (specimen to be treated) current. This may lead to different oxidation dynamics at different locations on the samples resulting in the non-uniform coating ...

Plasma electrolytic oxidation of coupled light metals

Transactions of the IMF, 2013
In order to assess the practicality of plasma electrolytic oxidation of parts consisting of more than one light metal, coupled metals, namely aluminium/AA 7075 aluminium alloy and AA 7075 aluminium alloy/ZE41 magnesium alloy, have been treated under alternating current conditions using constant total currents.

Plasma electrolytic oxidation of pre-anodized aluminium

Corrosion Science, 2009
Abstract The influence of an anodizing pre-treatment in sulphuric acid is investigated on plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) of aluminium in silicate electrolyte under constant rms current. The presence of the anodic film is shown to promote the establishment of a micro-arc regime that is favourable for growth of the PEO coating.

Plasma Electrolytic Oxidation Coatings for Aluminum Alloys

Materials Performance, 2017
Plasma electrolytic oxidation coatings were formed on aluminum alloys in an inexpensive and convenient electrolyte. The effects of current density (CD) on corrosion resistance behavior of the coatings were studied by potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) tests.
