Titanium is one of the most commonly used materials for implants in trauma applications due to its low density, high corrosion resistance and biocompatibility. Nevertheless, there is still a need for improved surface modifications of Titanium, in order to change surface properties such as wettability, antibacterial properties or tissue attachment.

Spectroscopic characterization of plasma during electrolytic oxidation (PEO) of aluminium
Surface and Coatings Technology, 2011Abstract We present results of an optical emission spectroscopic study of Plasma during Electrolytic Oxidation (PEO) of aluminium in citric acid and in sodium–tungstate water solutions. The line shape analysis of the first two hydrogen Balmer lines indicates presence of two PEO processes characterized by relatively low electron number densities Ne ...

The effect of bipolar pulse mode current ratio (anodic to cathodic) on plasma emission behavior was investigated in Plasma Electrolytic Oxidation (PEO) on AZ91D Mg-Alloy. Two cases of current ratio as 1.20 and 0.88 were applied to the sample. Plasma emission behavior was studied using plasma images and plasma emission measured by photodetector and ...

Spectroscopic and real-time imaging investigation of tantalum plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO)
Surface and Coatings Technology, 2011Abstract We present the results of plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) of tantalum in 12-tungstosilicic acid at 70 mA/cm 2 . For the characterization real-time imaging and optical emission spectroscopy (OES) were used. It has been detected that relatively small microdischarges (cross-sectional area 2 ) are dominant throughout the PEO, while the ...

The adhesion of bovine chondrocytes and human osteoblasts to three titania-based coatings, formed by plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO), was compared to that on uncoated Ti-6Al-4V substrates, and some comparisons were also made with plasma sprayed hydroxyapatite (HA) coatings. This was done using a centrifuge, with accelerations of up to 160,000 g, so
