Plasma Applications in Gases, Liquids and Solids

2023
This book explores the exciting and evolving world of plasma physics in materials manufacturing and processing. From ionized discharges to non-thermal equilibrium plasmas, new phenomena in physics are constantly emerging. Written, organized, and edited by internationally recognized experts, the various chapters delve into diverse issues in plasma ...

Plasma oscillations of electron gases

Physica, 1960
A unifying concept, that of the frequency- and wave number-dependent longitudinal dielectric constant epsilon (k, omega ), is described which offers a simple way to tie together the theoretical approaches to the electron gas and to describe the plasma oscillations.

Plasma waveguide formation in predissociated clustering gases

Optics Letters, 1998
We report on the use of a novel technique to create a plasma waveguide suitable for guiding high-intensity laser pulses in underdense plasmas. A narrow channel of a clustering gas is dissociated with a low-intensity prepulse. This prepulse is followed by a high-intensity, focused laser pulse.

Elementary Processes in Gases and Plasmas

2018
Elementary processes involving atoms, electrons and ions are analyzed. Peculiarities of cross sections and rate constants as characteristics of these processes are considered. Various pair and three body collision processes are considered as elastic electron-atom scattering, processes of excitation, quenching and ionization of atoms by electron impact,

Plasma physics aspects of tunnel-ionized gases

Physical Review Letters, 1992
Tunnel-ionized plasmas have been studied through experiments and particle simulations. Experimentally, x-ray measurements show that the plasma temperature is higher for a circularly polarized laser-produced plasma compared to when linear polarization is used.

Existence and Stability of Cold Rydberg Gases and Plasmas

Few-Body-Systems, 2004
Recently, the spontaneous evolution of an ultracold gas of Rydberg atoms into a plasma has been demonstrated experimentally, as well as the reverse process of plasma recombination into atomic Rydberg states. Here, we discuss the existence and stability properties of the gas and plasma phases over a wide range of initial-state parameters.

Interaction of laser plasmas with noble gases

Plasma Physics Reports, 2004
The interaction of a noble gas jet (Xe, Kr, He) with a laser plasma at a distance of ∼1 cm from a solid target (Mg, (CH2)n, LiF, or CF4) was studied for the first time. The line spectra that were excited in the course of charge exchange of multicharged ions with noble gas atoms in the interaction region were recorded.

Plasma destruction of flue gases

IEE Colloquium Pulsed Power '97, 1997
Nonthermal electrical discharges with sufficiently high electron energies can reduce NO (nitric oxide) levels in air-like gases (e.g. flue gas) to zero and will, with sufficiently high energy input, also reduce the concentration of nitrogen dioxide (NO/sub 2/) and thus of total NO/sub x/, besides destroying various other pollutants.

Phenomena in gases and plasmas with negative ions

Uspekhi Fizicheskih Nauk, 1993
This review is devoted to the phenomena induced by negative ion processes in weakly ionized gases and plasmas. It briefly describes the electron attachment and detachment processes. The consideration focuses on the salient features of charged particle transport in electronegative gases.
